THIS was a bomb that had been ticking for a while.
NBC executives were warned a year ago that Brian Williams was constantly inflating his biography. They were flummoxed over why the leading network anchor felt that he needed Hemingwayesque, bullets-whizzing-by flourishes to puff himself up, sometimes to the point where it was a joke in the news division.
But the caustic media big shots who once roamed the land were gone, and there was no one around to pull his chain when he got too over-the-top, as one NBC News reporter put it.

When you do the timeline...he graduates from HS in 1978...then he shuffles through three colleges in four years...never more than a class or two in each. He’s hired up in 1981 as a news guy for a very small station near Joplin, Missouri (age 21). A year later, he’s picked up for channel in the DC area? How is this possible? You don’t see people moving up the chain like this with a fairly lame resume...unless there’s someone ‘helping’ them along the way.
There’s more to this whole story. He had to make up tons of stuff for the DC station to get him. Then 1987...barely six years after he started from Kansas....he’s hired for CBS’s station in New York City? How is this possible? More resume filler?
I think the guy’s whole career has been this way....fake journalism...fake resume.
His father was quite an influential figure. He was executive vice president of the National Retail Merchants Association, in New York. I suspect that his father played a role in his quick rise in television “journalism”.
