Federal authorities have launched a criminal investigation into New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, as well as members of his administration, a man at the center of the investigation told ABC News.
The U.S. attorneys office in New Jersey has interviewed former Hunterdon County Assistant Prosecutor Bennett Barlyn, who claims he was fired because he objected to Christie officials dismissing indictments against political allies of the governor. Barlyn confirmed the investigation to ABC News. It was first reported by the International Business Times.
It is true, Barlyn told ABC News, saying he was interviewed by federal authorities at his Pennsylvania home this week. I also provided the investigators with names of people I thought could furnish firsthand information.
Barlyn said he was not sure whether others have been questioned for the investigation.
Barlyn was dismissed from the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office in September 2010 and later brought a whistleblower case against the Christie administration that currently is in the discovery phase. He has consistently said he was fired for objecting to the quashing of indictments against the countys sheriff and two subordinates -- all political supporters of Christies.
The governors office previously has dismissed the accusations as being conspiratorial nonsense.

"Christie throwing his weight around again?"
I don't know if there's any merit to these accusations, but consider the fact that in recent years Christie, Palin, Scott Walker, and Rick Perry have all been subjected to a barrage of ethical complaints just when they began to emerge as national figures. In virtually all of these cases to date, they have eventually been exonerated, but only after having had their reputations dragged through the mud.
So my question is: Is this a tactic of Democrats to preemptively destroy any potential Republican candidate by launching far-fetched ethical complaints against them, complaints which perhaps irrevocably tarnish the candidate while using up valuable time and resources?

I thought the name was phony till I looked it up. But who would name someone that?

I’m praying that Christie will stick around just enough to divide the liberal votes with Bush and Rubio. I don’t want all the crossover democrats to be able to choose a big government liberal republican to oppose the big government liberal democrat they are going to nominate.

Yup, this has been a dem tactic for some time and with quite a bit of success - remember Sen Stevens from Alaska, and Delay in Tx and others?
