Vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor in America, not because it is the best (that would be coffee) but because it is the least objectionable. Put another way, vanilla is the most acceptable to the most people; it's not many people's favorite, but nobody hates it..
And that's why Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is the vanilla candidate.
A new Des Moines Register poll has Walker in first place narrowly among likely Republican caucus-goers. With Mitt Romney included in the poll, he was the respondents' first choice with 15 percentage points. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was second with 14 percentage points and Romney with 13. With Romney out, Walker's lead rose to 16 percentage points and Paul's to 15. First place in a tightly packed field is better than any of the alternatives, but it's not that big a deal this far out.
The big deal is the vanilla factor. According to Jennifer Jacobs of the Des Moines Register, 51% of caucus-goers want an anti-establishment candidate without a lot of ties to Washington or Wall Street who would change the way things are done and challenge conventional thinking. Meanwhile, 43% prefer a more establishment figure with executive experience who understands business and how to execute ideas.
Walker is in the golden spot. He can, like Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day listening to Andie MacDowell explain the perfect man, reply that's me to almost everything Republicans want....

Vanilla is a rascist term that obfuscates their evil views...
Cruz gives a good speech, but Walker has actually delivered a conservative agenda in a Blue State.
You can have any flavor you want, so long as it rhymes with Vanilla! After eight years of Tutti-Fruity, Pink Slime, Devil’s Food and Mooch Hooch, I could use a simple bowl of Vanilla on top of my Dutch Apple Pie.
Vanilla?
I thought this was going to be a liberal quasi-racist slam on Walker.
But it’s Goldberg?
What is he thinkin using this vanilla term?
Well...
I happen to like a big bowl of vanilla ice cream,
with some microwaved crunchy peanut butter,
and some crumbled up vanilla wafers,
topped off with some chocolate syrup.
(its all that cliche about trying to herd cats, I guess)
Walker is 100% GOPe. Third term of the Booshies.
Cruz has stood up to fight the GOP Establishment, Walker hasn’t.
That should tell us who the real conservative is in the room.
While folks are trying to pick their ice cream flavor, I’ll be voting for Cruz.
Then I’ll get a piece of fresh homemade apple pie with a scoop of Vanilla bean.....sit on a beach log while and sip my Hennessy Richard Cognac.
It’s all easy... I’ll be voting for Cruz.
Walker has been busy fighting the unions. The guy has conviction, he stood his ground even though he stood to lose. He sure cost the unions a lot of money, campaign money.
Cruz and lose.
You bring that and I’ll bring mine. We’ll have a beach party.
The reason why Walker is appealing to many conservatives is because he has taken them to battle on their ground WI and not only beat them but beat back all their recall elections and attempted shutdowns.
Yes, he provoked the Dems there to try to shutdown the WI legislate and then fall into his trap and fail and get Dems to get ll the blame for it.
So OK, who do we have as an alternative on our side who beat the Dems at anything?
Failed gestures and blaming others don't impress me.
Impress me with results.
Beat Dems like Walker did. Show me that you are not just talk BS.
vanilla bean, that’s racist!
What good is beating unions if illegals flood in, the economy implodes, welfare ramps up some more, Common Core is implemented and the homosexual agenda is forced on every locality? Christie fought unions, too, but I don’t see you beating his drum.
LOL...Everthing is racist.
Vanilla is hardly the term I would use to describe Walker. He’s proven he can be tough as nail, he can push his agenda through, and he can take it as well as dish it out.
My first choice is still Cruz, but I would not be unhappy with Walker.
