Taiwan TransAsia plane crash-lands in Taipei river

A plane belonging to Taiwanese carrier TransAsia Airways has crash-landed in a river in Taipei. More than 50 people were onboard at the time, and a number of people were reportedly injured. Some reports said there were several people trapped inside the plane in need of rescue. Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) showed a picture of a plane almost submerged in the Keelung river. The ATR-72 had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was headed to Kinmen Airport on the outskirts of Taiwan, just off the coast of south-east China, CNA said. The cause of the latest incident was not immediately clear. But CNA quoted a government spokesman as saying the plane crashed after hitting an elevated bridge. Local channel ETTV showed footage of the plane banking and hitting a road bridge before crashing into the river. Local media reported that several people had been rescued so far and sent to a nearby hospital. In July last year 48 people died when a TransAsia Airways plane crashed amid stormy weather in Taiwan's Penghu archipelago.

Strange. Commercials in English. I understand that. To my brain, they sure talk fast.

I prefer Korean shows, their language is more syllable-based and sounds better to my ear. Plus it is easier to learn a few words here and there.

Media reporting the pilot’s mayday included a mention of double engine failure - one engine/prop may have been spinning down slower/later than the other.

Shades of Delta 191 and the poor bastard that got a landing gear in his truck cab while driving down Highway 121 outside the airport.

I hope the taxi driver is OK.

But can you imagine the phone call... “Hello, Insurance? Um, my taxi got hit by a plane...”

Prayers for those in and affected by the crash.

Not to be confused with American 191 where the engine fell off onto the runway.

No, that one was where the then out of control DC-10 hit a trailer park and an unused hangar. Delta 191 was slammed to the ground by a microburst at landing, bouncing it off the freeway near DFW airport; one poor driver on the highway received the DC-10’s landing gear. The aircraft bounced, got airborne again, then crashed into some nearby fuel tanks.

Looks like the “boss”, (probably the supe for the crane company), is directing for more cables or repositioning of cables. Cable added, taking tension

Sorry, 191 was an L-1011. The poor guy on the highway got an L-1011 main gear through his car, with the L-1011 still attached.

Plane is pretty well crunched, lifting it up by the back end and slowly dragging it towards shore. Probably the only option, doesn’t look structurally sound to lift it.
