When Islamic State militants posted a video over the weekend showing the grisly killing of a Japanese journalist, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reacted with outrage, promising to make the terrorists pay the price. Such vows of retribution may be common in the West when leaders face extremist violence, but they have been unheard of in confrontation-averse Japan until now. The prime ministers call for revenge after the killings of the journalist, Kenji Goto, and another hostage, Haruna Yukawa, raised eyebrows even in the military establishment, adding to a growing awareness here that the crisis could be a watershed for this long pacifist country. Japan has not seen this Western-style expression in its diplomacy before, Akihisa Nagashima, a former vice minister of defense, wrote on Twitter. Does he intend to give Japan the capability to back up his words? As the 12-day hostage crisis came to a grim conclusion with the killing of Mr. Goto, the world has suddenly begun to look like a much more dangerous place to a peaceful and prosperous nation that had long seen itself as immune to the sorts of violence faced by the United States and its Western allies. Some described a level of shock not unlike that experienced by the Americans after the 2001 terrorist attacks, or the French after last months assault on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo and the murders in a kosher supermarket. This is 9/11 for Japan, said Kunihiko Miyake, a former high-ranking Japanese diplomat who has advised Mr. Abe on foreign affairs. It is time for Japan to stop daydreaming that its good will and noble intentions would be enough to shield it from the dangerous world out there. Americans have faced this harsh reality, the French have faced it, and now we are, too. ...

A new tide of Nationalism in Japan?
As much as it scares a lot of people on this board, the Japanese will NEED it to survive since they cannot rely on America to back them up and help protect them from China.
Plus War would help Japan’s economy i think....
Bonzai = They will turn them into fertilizer for little trees.............
They also have a bigger air force than the UK, also with a qualitative advantage. Assuming Japanese F-15s to be the betters of Eurofighters.
Neither has any strategic bombers.
Basically, Japan can slightly out project the UK just about now if they choose.
Only the Liberty Tree is watered with the blood of patriots.
They know something?
What Do They Know? Why Are So Many Of The Super Wealthy Preparing Bug Out Locations?
"In a separate interview, Johnson admitted that very powerful people are telling us theyre scared and that the elite see increasing evidence of social instability and violence. "
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” - Thomas Jefferso
A few plane-loads of munitions and weapons given to the Kurds would likely go a long way.
IS: winning friends and influencing people. Maybe they’ll get the attentions of a few more nations like that.
I was hoping for this! Since we are not leading under Obama, I would like to see a whole slew of countries INDEPENDENTLY declaring war on ISIL/ISIS, so that the islamic terrorists won’t even know who will hit them next.
I would love to help the Japanese in their effort!
There's no evidence that The Won views "world spinning out of control" as a bad thing.
Many of us believe he views it as a good thing, it being conducive to the reformation of the Caliphate.

They would make a powerful ally in the Pacific. Hope they change their constitution to allow offensive capabilities.
Fk them, their attitude, censorship and the camel they rode in on.
I make no distinction about Muslims. Peacable, indifferent, co-conspirators and vile actors.
Islam is a disease and it won't be long before the world becomes the cure.
For the so called peacable Muslims, this is their problem to clean up if they truly want to be inclusive, accepting/accepted and live in peace amongst the whole human species, occupying the same planet.
They can work toward to solving the perception and reality problems and my guys dont have to get killed trying to attrit them and remove any global religious ambitions they have.
Hindus have about 1.5 billion adherents and they dont mess with us or anyone else.
Nothing from the 500 million Buddhists either.
But, Islam has been at war with the rest of humanity for 1,400 years and I am intolerant?
How so, jerk offs?
The Crusades? Christianities answer to Islam taking over the Holy Lands, Portugal and Spain.
Battle of Tours? Held Islam in check for its geographic expansion.
Queen Isabella finally, after three requests gave Christopher Columbus the money and ships to find an alternative route around The Silk Road, which was controlled by the Muslims.
In 1491 the Muslim hordes were finally removed from Europe and as a coming out party, looking for new wealth and worlds to expand the empire and trade, Chris went in search of that Alternative.
Thank God, he made a mistake and discovered America instead.
For the next 300 years, any expeditions for trade were held for ransom and the men carrying treasures, in search of revenues for their respective countries held as hostages.
Any country who sent ships into Muslim waters was taken and demand was made by the Barbary Pirates and Imams for restitution.
WTF were they willing to trade of value for anything we had of value? Nothing.
But, if you wanted to get your stuff across sea and then transported over land, you were going to pay heavily and the whole thing really was a lose/lose.
Now, on the day of inauguration for Thomas Jefferson he received a letter of demand for $1 million per year. Our men, treasures and ships would be given right of passage if the demand was met.
This demand was being given to every nation at that time.
Well, we had just smoked the worlds most powerful armed force and Jefferson was in no mood to be pushed around.
He sent a letter back saying we were coming and while the letter was in transport he directed the ships Enterprise and Constitution be built.
He sent those two ships to Tripoli, along with an Armada.
Without firing a shot Tripoli saw the wisdom of not engaging our ships and relented.
American then doesnt hear a peep from Muslims until the Robert Kennedy assassination.
Around the time of Jimmy Carter Muslims are again on the rise, very much agitated and on the move around the world.
They overthrow the Shah of Iran and take our American Brothers and Sisters hostage.
Reagan comes into office and Iran mustve got the message, as they released them freely.
For the last 35 years all weve heard is their belligerent Bull Shiite.
Over the last 15 I have heard over and over how they are hurt that we, the infidels, are in their lands.
Well, D***kheads. We made those lands, helped you explore, tried to set you up with modernity and you have been resisting the whole time.
Even now, I have idiot fellow Americans who think we should try to reason with them and understand them.
I dont have any capacity to understand killers and will not waste time trying to break bread with them, while they are looking for the opportunity to break open my head.
Burning a man alive? In the name of your Gawd? Uhm, FK allah.
I make no apologies for my views. They are based on observable facts and an extraordinarily long period of religious intolerance, belligerence and outright desire to dominate the rest of us.
Watching in real time the events of the last 15 years ought to inform your conscience and reason should be the basis of your action.
Not some feigned emotion hoping the world will be any different than it currently is.
Those millions in Africa hacked to death for the glory of Allah? Thats a good thing right? Because a bunch of dead Christians is better than peace, the right of the individual to live, pursue happiness and improve the lot of their family.
Boko Haram is more important than 300 little girls? Well, you make sense more and more.
Al Qaedas observed acts, stated goals and roach like existence of glorifying death and a heaven that debases women, objectifies them and turns the idea of hope of eternal life into some macabre whorehouse. That idea is worth my respect? The hell it is.
And the latest franchise of ISIL/ISIS? Hacking the heads off reporters and the latest some Japanese guys. In addition to murdering women and children because they didnt conform to their interpretation of Islam?
Oh yeah. I feel you man. They are beautiful people.
Christians in Iraq? Well, not anymore. The oldest churches, some nearly 2,000 years old have been destroyed.
Christians and their artifacts are now fairy tales in the so called Cradle of Civilization.
Sohhhh, FK you and and Islam...
For those who can stomach watching the man burn alive, here is a link via Pamela Geller:
Islam is for faggots...
Japan does a lot of business in muslim countries, and in other places where there are significant numbers of muslims, and has a fair number of illegal alien muslims. Except for a “surgical” strike against ISIS, I don’t expect the Japanese to do anything physical.
I think the days of Japanese pacifism are over, and without sliding back into fascism which I am sure they won’t, they need to bring back some of the samurai way, and screw the Kawaii S**T.
Haven’t they become so pacifist they aren’t even having sex with each other?
IS may goof and bring in Israel against them....
Israel mounting thousands of sorties against targets in Iraq, Jordan, Syria..etc What could go wrong.
Post of the year
“Their (Japan’s) navy is actually currently bigger than the British Royal Navy. Better qualitatively too... They also have a bigger air force than the UK”.
They have a lot of good gear, but it stays in their waters and airspace, operating out of permanent bases with the personnel home with the honey every night. They lack troop carriers, oilers for refueling ships, tanker planes, basing agreements overseas, deployable base support equipment, experience or training for extended deployment, ICBM’s, etc.
They can fight if someone attacks their homeland, but reaching out to touch someone is an epic stretch for them. They have been restricted by their constitution from developing offensive capability. Abe has been bucking to reinterpret the constitution to allow for scenarios which could justify building such capability, such as defending an ally in a mutual defense treaty (with the growing Chinese threat in mind).
This might be just the stimulus he needs to push through changes. Now they can’t do much directly, except pay for others to pull triggers, but longer term, this could be just in time to enable the building of the great robot army/fleet of the near future.
Really, if legal changes occur this year, they could probably get American support to bring some small units into theater to get a little taste next year. It would be a cultural earthquake for the Japanese public to deal with real combat and real casualties
ISIS just made a BIG mistake.
When a giant flying space battleship appears over Damascus, don’t say I didn’t warn ya’ll.
Juzo Okita: Attention, all remaining ships and battle groups. We will retreat. We no longer have a single ship that can prevail.
Mamoru Kodai: Captain Okita, this is Yukikaze, Captain Mamoru Kodai! I cannot obey your command to withdraw! I could never show my face to the friends I’ve lost!
Juzo Okita: Whether you agree with it or not, the withdrawal is my order, Kodai. We’re all that’s left to defend the Earth. A true man bears the humiliation of today for the sake of tomorrow.
Mamoru Kodai: I don’t think so! Even if it’s hopeless, we can still take our enemies with us! Isn’t that what a man does?
Juzo Okita: Kodai! Hear my order: Withdraw!
Mamoru Kodai: I’ll fight while you withdraw, Captain Okita!
Juzo Okita: Kodai, don’t say such a stupid thing!
Mamoru Kodai: Captain Okita... we’re proud to have fought with you.
