Once upon a time, “political correctness” was little more than a benign left-wing version of old-church-lady tut-tutting.

I first heard the term "politically correct" in 1984. I was dating a young recent graduate of a college in eastern Massachusetts, and made some sort of political observation. She looked at me in shock and said: "That's not politically correct."

At first I thought she was jokingly citing a response inspired by Chairman Mao's Little Red Book. But then I realized she was serious.

Even though she graduated with a degree in Women's (Womyn's) Studies, she long since has become a conservative.

You are almost there. What they really believe is that they are so smart that they can’t be wrong. Thus when their ideas fail they assume it is just because they didn’t do enough of them; or spread them far enough.

Why is Chicago a shooting gallery? Because WI allows people to have guns. This would be a classic example of the second “reason for failure” in the mind of the left.

Liberals need political correctness to control others thinking it would not control them.

I was on the phone with a person in HR a few years back and told a joke about the Irish. I could sense she was clutching her pearls.... (btw I am part Irish). I have a manager who is political correct when it comes to hiring people. Since that person started less then 4 years ago they have fired 4 of their new hires and 3 people quit. 2 of 3 just walked out with no notice.
