Apple delivered the greatest earnings report in history on Tuesday.
That's not hyperbole. Apple earned $18 billion in net income over the three-month period of October to December 2014. That's more than any other company has ever earned over a three-month span.
Apple earned those mind-melting profits thanks mostly to the iPhone, which is an incredible business.
Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones, up 46% from the year prior. The iPhone generated $51 billion in revenue, giving each iPhone an average selling price of $687.

As Steve Jobs stated at the time the iPad came out. . . Flash is the vector for 60% of malware to find its way on to computers. It also is an energy HOG. . . and refuses to play nice. Just this week Adobe announced a ZERO day vulnerability in FLASH that allowed for the remote taking over of both Windows 7 and 8 and OS X computers by malicious hackers AND there were already EXPLOITS in the wild for Windows 7 and 8! Adobe pushed a patch for those Windows users who had turned on auto-update. . . BUT NOT for people who had elected to do Flash updates manually. . . those they did not post for over a week!!!! (No exploits were in the wild for OS X!)
Android phones and tablets that supported Flash depleted their batteries rapidly because of Flash. This continued until Google dropped official support for Flash.
There are browsers that will play Flash on iPhones and iPads (Skyfire, Puffin, Chrome, to name a few). . . but they are not officially supported for Flash and will never be for the above reasons. . . but Apple makes them available on the App Store. That is choice.
If you can "drag and drop files" then you are opening your device just like Android devices to the millions of malware that are out there for Android and Windows . . . because you cannot do that on an iPhone or iPad, there are ZERO malware for iOS iPhones and iPads. You may hate the minor inconvenience, but most users HATE the malware eliminating your inconvenience would allow a hell of a lot more.
What you want makes the device unsafe to use. It's what makes Android a nest of malware forcing Android users to have to run AV and worry about ID theft, and prevents Android from making inroads into the Enterprise markets. Which would you prefer? Some inconvenience in moving files, of having your identity stolen and my money stolen simply because Red in Blue PA and a few others want to move their files easily??? I chose keeping my money in my bank!
“You have the apple hater variety of bush derangement syndrome.”
Yeah, ok.
Because dissent from the line of Apple fanatics is obviously “derangement”.
Do you mean like Bill Gates and Steve Balmer both giving $500,000 each to the Anti-gun organizations? Apple, Steve Jobs, and Tim Cook has never done that. . .
My word! ....You must be in Colorado.
“Arguing with an Apple Fanboy is like arguing with a Liberal.”
You are not kidding. I deal with lots of leftists on places like Reddit, and these people here use all of the same rhetorical cliches. You can replace all references of “Apple” with “Obama” and they would sound exactly the same!
The point is that the $687 figure was taken from the article, and not an "exaggerated" figure made up by a poster, as it was characterized.
It was a simple statement of fact, correcting a mischaracterization. Why should you have a problem with that?
You haven’t seen any of these FReepers who have Apple products supporting any leftists here (and there are a lot of Freepers with Apple products).
I don’t buy “left” or “right” oatmeal (and I haven’t heard of any FReepers doing so either). I haven’t asked QuikTrip whether their gasoline is “left” or “right” ... LOL ... much less asking if their company is. I didn’t ask the furnace repairman if he was “left” or “right” ... I just wanted a guy that knew how to fix furnaces!
I’m confident that most Windows users here don’t bother trying to figure out if their operating system is “left” or “right” ... or even of the CEO of Microsoft is or if the founder is or not. From what I’ve heard here, those particular FReepers buy Windows and Windows machines because they like it ... and nothing more to it.
I think if you check out whether you’re oatmeal is left or right, if your gasoline is left or right, or if Windows and the founders of Microsoft were left or right ... you’re just plain weird ... and that would explain your OBSESSIVE NATURE on this thread as an Apple-hater ... namely, there’s a screw loose somewhere ... :-) ...
I imagine pretty much any smartphone that’s over 2 years past it’s release date is pretty steeply discounted by now.
Apple is eating Samsungs market share even in South KoreaIts regularly common for the citizens of many countries to show a certain degree of pride and nationalism for the products made in their respective territories. That has slowly changed though, as the whole concept of Made In America stopped being important in the US many years ago. Youd think that this would be important in countries like South Korea, and especially with Samsungs world dominance of the smartphone market, but it seems to be slowly fading away.
Counterpoint Research has just revealed some numbers for South Korea, and according to the report, Apple has broken records, even in Samsungs turf. Apple reportedly owned 33% of the market share between October and November, and Samsung remained with a 46%. Obviously these were the months when the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched, so that could have a lot to do with the growth in sales. Whats most shocking about these news is that the report claims that this is the first time that any foreign company earns more than 20% in market share.
Apple has done a good job in selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus over the last couple of quarters. Lets see how long these records last.

However, market share is not the important metric. Profit share is . . . and in the previous quarter to this one, Apple had 87% of the entire World's cellular phone handset PROFIT SHARE. Only two other cellphone makers showed a profit, Samsung and Xiaomi, with all the rest posting loses. With this blowout quarter, and with Samsung's abysmal results, I would not be at all surprised to learn that Apple claims 95% of all Cellular phone profits!
Brand new iPhones (the very latest models) don’t cost that for the consumer. You’re talking about an iPhone with NO PHONE SERVICE ... :-) ...

Samsung Reports Lowest Annual Profit In Three Years Due To Lagging Smartphone Sales
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3251708/posts
Samsung Electronics reported its lowest annual profit since 2011 during its earnings call today as its smartphone sales continue to suffer from increasing competition. In 2014, the companys profit was 25 trillion won, a 32 percent drop from a high of 36.8 trillion won in 2013.
Its 4Q2014 net profit fell 27 percent to 5.3 trillion won year-over-year, in-line with Samsungs earning guidance earlier this month.
The Korean tech giant reported that its mobile units earnings dropped 64 percent year-over-year to 1.96 trillion won, marketing its fifth quarterly decline in a row. Mobile sales accounted for just 58 percent of Samsungs total operating profit last year, a significant decrease from 70 percent in 2013. The company said smartphone shipments fell in 4Q2014 and will continue to decline this quarter.
You really think people here are too dumb to understand that the phone company is adding enough to the contract price to cover the $687 they paid for that phone?
That’s been their business model for as long as I can remember ... :-) ...
Am I jumping up and down extolling the heavenly virtues of Gates and Balmer?
I can’t stand either of them, as it happens, or paying for their products.
But I’m glad to see you come out, honestly at least, in favor of faggotry and anti-Christian bigotry.
As to undermining the Second Amendment, I’m not clear how you or anybody else would know how Cocky Cook spends his private dollars. Do you speak to him often?
Tim Cook has been CEO of Apple since August 25, 2011. Apple's stock has increased by more than 215% since Steve Jobs died. Your put options can't be doing so well.
To me it's akin to boasting about buying a Members Only Jacket.
Yet you couldn't remember what the question was for 5 minutes.
How many railroad cars of coal did it take to power all those per year. They are killing the climate.
You get the quality you pay for (at least with Apple you do) ... EXCEPT ... when you pay Samsung their high prices for their smart phones ... in which case Samsung is definitely taking the consumer for a ride ... :-) ...
I just happen to know (and “remember” ... :-) ...) it has nothing to do with Apple or iPhones, as Samsung is the same way ...
