I disagree. I work with many young women, and my wife teaches high school.
Marriage is views as very desirable, but very expensive. In short, it is a luxury good now. Many put off marriage because they are afraid of the relationship crashing, can’t afford the “fairy tale” wedding they have always wanted, or don’t feel that they are stable enough financially to do it.
This is both men and women.
That is why my wife and I found, through a number of means, ways to make our wedding not cost a whole lot, we simply didn’t feel like making marriage start with a debt burden, and if you have to make it really cheap, it can be done. It only cost my wife and I about $5K for our getting married, and perhaps a little extra for the honeymoon. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was fair enough to enjoy.
