There is Wrangell Island, in the southern Peninsula of Alaska, and there is Wrangel island, just north of Russia.

It should not be confused with Wrangel Island in Russia, or with the Wrangell Mountains or Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve, farther northwest in Alaska.

Russia has always controlled Wrangel Island.
