Alison Grimes, still "encouraged" after double-digit Senate loss this fall, will seek re-election

LEXINGTON — Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes ended months of speculation Monday, telling a crowd of about 70 supporters that she will seek re-election this year rather than mount bids of governor or attorney general.

Grimes had been linked to nearly every constitutional office as the filing deadline approached, but she officially launched her re-election campaign at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, the same place she jumpstarted her 2011 run for secretary of state.

The 36-year-old Democrat had kept a low profile since her 15-point loss to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell last fall, and she listed a number of initiatives she would like to complete with another four years in office, such as electronic voter registration, restoring felon voting rights and updating Kentucky’s non-profit laws.

After a grueling 18 months on the Senate campaign trail, Grimes said she’s “only encouraged” and her faith in public service and people of Kentucky are stronger today than ever.

“Today I come before you and I ask you to humbly give me that same faith and trust to continue to be your voice,” Grimes said. “It’s with excitement, it’s with energy that I tell you today I will be filing paperwork for re-election as Kentucky’s secretary of state.”

She told reporters she had spoken with Gov. Steve Beshear, whose son Andrew Beshear is the only Democrat in this year’s attorney general race, and Attorney General Jack Conway, the lone prominent Democrat running for governor, about her decision.

“We are excited about the steps moving forward and what we believe will be one of the strongest tickets that Kentucky’s ever seen,” Grimes said.

“electronic voter registration, restoring felon voting rights and updating Kentucky’s non-profit laws”

The most pressing problems facing the Republic? Sheesh, what a whiny loser platform. Is there honestly nothing else of import she could focus on?

Anything to get back at that government teat.

In the private sector it’s a B**ch!

They actually expect you to work and get results!

The most pressing issue for leftists is creating more voters. There is no group higher in agreement with democrats than violent criminals. Plus, it never hurts to register untraceable phantom voters.

For some reason I kept getting Alison Grimes confused with Alison Arngrim. Not sure why.

She’s typical of a large fraction of corporate white collar workers whose primary competency is moving into the next job before the mistakes of the present job catch up to them. ALG is trying to do the same thing.

Good analysis, SS. I would have to agree with you. Looked through that prism, it makes sense.

Obama hit 50% approval today after promising the brain-dead electorate lots more free goodies.

This cucking funt, pardon my French, needs to be defeated.

It’s passed damn time for the GOP to breakthrough in Kentucky state offices.

A shame they weren’t able to take the State House in the first time in ever, last November.

Paultard Matt Bevin filed for Governor.

I hope we’re not inundated by fools saying he “must” be nominated over Comer, so he can lose to Conway by 20 points.

Remember how I would explain to Bevin fanatics that he should have run for a lower office first, built up a record to go with his talk, and only then seek higher office? Well, the governorship isn’t exactly an entry-level position.

Maybe Bevin took a Mediterranean cruise with the Yale Travel Society last fall and he now can claim to be a Yale graduate.

I’m leaning to Comer. Heiner is too “Louisville” a candidate, which usually fails in a general non-federal statewide office. Bevin should’ve run for a lesser statewide office.
