Hollywood is never saddened when a $60 million film brings in $200 million in its first two weeks of wide release.
The Academy, on the other hand, is likely conflicted. The problem is that the Academy Awards telecast tends to bring in more viewers when people feel as though they have a dog in the fight. As it stands right now, American Sniper is the only movie up for the major awards that is an actual hit. Viewers are going to feel cheated if it doesn't win.
