DAVOS -- The crackdown on illegal immigration combined with intensified border security has prompted large numbers of undocumented Mexican laborers to remain in the U.S. permanently -- even as many prefer to go home -- out of fear they will never be able to return, former Mexican President Felipe Calderon told International Business Times.
“Many of them are currently trapped,” Calderon told IBTimes. “There are a lot of these people [who] want to be in Mexico eight months every year, but they are unable to go there, because if they cross the border, they will never be able to cross back again.”
Calderon said he believes U.S. lawmakers should consider adding provisions to proposed immigration legislation that would permit “temporary work in a massive way,” but without giving immigrants automatic citizenship.
“I don’t believe that most of the Mexican workers looking for a job in the United States are wanting to be American citizens,” Calderon told IBTimes. “They are looking for an opportunity to get economic benefits and actually thinking when they are leaving [Mexico] what will be the way in which they can go back to their own home.”

It’s true, they don’t want to become US Citizens. but they want to vote like citizens. And they will, because laws to them don’t mean a g*ddam thing.
Perhaps that's a leading question, let me rephrase it. Why is Mexico such a stinkhole of a country?
I didn't click on the link. Does the author even mention NAFTA and all the wonderful jobs it was supposed to bring to Mehico?
First, they are illegal.
Secondly , well of course they don’t want to be American, they can still work, get welfare, move abut, not pay taxes , speak their language because they are too damn lazy to learn ours.etc

Anyone who deals with illegals already knows this. They came across that border for one reason and one reason only. Money! Their “immigration” is about them and money. Nothing else. They are the people de Toqueville warned us about.
I believe that many illegals would prefer to work here tax-free while reaping the benefits and sending remittances back home. The idea that they are going to work unskilled jobs to fund the retirements of elderly Americans and freebies for gibsmedats is laughable to them.
As another FReeper pointed out, illegals are the last “free” people in the US. Our latest new “tax” (ObamaCare) doesn’t impact them at all; monkeying around with Social Security to keep it solvent doesn’t bother them one whit either.
Gee, ever witness a soccer game in Los Angeles between Mexico and the USA and hear which side the crowd is cheering for? Mexicans are here for the Free Stuff, and secondly, for safety from the drug cartels that run their cesspool of a country. Democrats may be disappointed in the low voter turnout of Mexicans after they have given them their Democrat voting cards along with their Free Stuff.
Of course the illegal Mexican does not want American citizenship they are here as CONQUERORS! You are witnessing the conquest of America without a shot being fired. It is only a matter of time until a violent sack breaks out.
That’s fine, we don’t want them anyway. Deport them, especially the b$(#@% in the picture.
This is why I got so angry whenever George W. Bush would try to bamboozle us by claiming his amnesty wasn’t amnesty because “we’re not going to give them automatic citizenship.” BIG DEAL. They don’t WANT citizenship, anyway!
It’s like saying, “Sorry, Mr. Jones, you can’t kick out that burglar and squatter who broke into your house last night. You have to let him stay, and you have to support him. But hey, it’s all right! His last name is not going to be Jones! Doesn’t that make everything okay?”
I asked some illegals that are in my area if they wanted to become citizens and they responded without hesitation, “No”. They told me they came here for money, they send it home and some told me they are using it to build homes back in Mexico. There was one young man I spoke to at length. He told me the younger males come here while the rest of the family stays back and supervises the building of the new home. He goes back for a period of time and works on the house himself, as do many of his friends. He told me he doesn’t even pay attention to the politics surrounding the issue; he has a goal and he’s just here to meet it.
Keep the illegals deport our politicians.
