The NFL is upping the stakes in its probe of the New England Patriots and unleashing one of the country’s top lawyers and a high-powered investigative firm to uncover the truth behind a scandal that has cast a dark cloud over the team as they prepare for the Super Bowl.
League officials broke their silence on the Deflategate scandal yesterday, announcing that high-powered white-collar crime lawyer Ted Wells will join NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash on the investigation into whether the Pats knowingly used under-inflated footballs in the American Football Conference championship game.
“He is one of the premier lawyers in the United States, he has great credibility, he’s well-known in the field and his reputation is stellar,” said Larry Krantz of the New York law firm Krantz & Berman when asked about Wells. “He’s a very serious lawyer, his integrity is beyond reproach and this is certainly an indication that (the NFL) is taking the investigation very seriously.”
The high-powered investigative firm Renaissance Associates also will be reviewing “electronic and video information” that could reveal whether team personnel let the air out of the balls after they were inspected by the referees, the NFL said.
Wells, who the league tapped to lead an investigation into bullying in the Miami Dolphins locker room in 2013, was named one of “The Decade’s Most Influential Lawyers” in 2010 by the National Law Journal. He famously — and successfully — defended former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer against federal charges he hid payments to a prostitution ring.

Except that Rodgers says he likes to overflate footballs...and overinflating them actually would make it more difficult to catch -- especially in pelting rain conditions -- versus easier.
The issue is less what aided (or not) Brady's throwing...'twas more about what aided the Patriot receivers' catchability in such wet conditions.

I can give you answer if you want. yes, they probably deflated, but lots of teams play fast and loose with the rules, especially, as in the case with footballs, they leave with the friggin team.
the problem is excellence in this country is discouraged, and six super bowls is rubbing it in the faces of the ninkumpoops. belichick’s been playing football for fifty years, and now, some little league teams don’t even keep score.

Ask The Chargers about “catchability” since they were involved in using the banned substance “stickum” in 2012. Or ask The Seahawks about those 300k in fines they are paying this year for illegal practices.

Yup...every team does something.
Yes, hundreds of people have mentioned the weather conditions. If the weather deflated the balls, why weren’t the Colts balls equally deflated. According to the reports they were still regulation. Only the Patriots balls were two pounds under the legal limit.

You would think if it’s really that big of a deal to the sport the refs would just check them often in game. Holy crap there’s enough commercial breaks in modern era NFL.

Cheaters never win . . . . Except maybe in the NFL. . . . And any other professional sport (steroids) . . . . Or courts of law where swift justice is a naive thing to talk about.
So when the NFL sweeps it all under the rug, they can say “hey, we hired a high-powered lawyer!”

I saw a report tonight that said those footballs were only used during the first half. Didn’t New England score MORE points in the second half?
