Full title: TV News Priorities: 68 Minutes for Under-Inflated Footballs, Mere Seconds for Obama's Release of Terrorists
The three major networks have, so far, devoted a staggering 67 minutes and 49 seconds to obsessing over every aspect of whether the New England Patriots cheated in their AFC championship win on Sunday. Yet, only ABC allowed a scant 34 seconds to the Obama administration's release of five terrorists out of Guantanamo Bay and back to areas connected with extremist violence. The contrast is 120-to-1.
NBC was, by far, the most lopsided in terms of journalistic priorities. From Monday through early Thursday, the network's morning and evening shows produced 33 minutes and 35 seconds to the so-called "Deflategate." Last week, however, NBC didn't offer any coverage to the release of five detainees, just seven days after the slaughter of cartoonists in Paris.

What are our priorities?
Indeed.
We have become, sadly, a bread and circuses nation. nobama is pleased.
That’s because deflated balls seem to be more important than non-existent “T” words. Who, by the way, have nothing to do with i-slam either.
Exactly why we have such a bad govt.
“We have become, sadly, a bread and circuses nation. nobama is pleased”.
All we need to cap this off is for Eric Holder to announce a Justice Dept investigation due to possible civil rights violations (Brady is white) and, for Al Sharpton to announce protests against deflation abuses by white, heavy legged white QB’s who can’t run more than one mile per hour a which would be just about all of them, lol :)
Years ago, some in the media admitted that the White House was directing the narrative (and headlines) of the MSM in weekly, Monday morning teleconferences with all the directors of the alphabet news orgs. This was accepted with a yawn by all, but the results can be seen today in what is promoted and what is ignored. Must be easy to do when 75% of the people are happy with what they hear.
The old Soviets would be green with envy...
What are our priorities?
+++++
The priorities are just fine here on Free Republic. There are hundreds of articles posted every day and thousands over months but sometimes the members need some comic relief from the anguish of what is happening to our country.
I use a trick that I will share with you. When an article pops up I don’t don’t want to read, I opt out.
Excellent reply.
I don’t want anyone telling me what to read, post, listen to or to watch on TV.
Humor is devastating to Islamos, Libs, and those who tell us to think as they think.
Deflate gate or anything related to the NFL should be relegated to The Smoky Backroom or similar...
Inane topics should not be allowed to overwhelm the NEWS forum...
Let me see if I have this straight.
Footballs were inflated with warm air while inside a heated building and everyone is surprised that when these balls are moved outside into frigid winter air the pressure in these balls decreases.
Unless these balls were filled with Nitrogen, this is to be expected.
Does anyone know if the NFL uses Nitrogen in these balls?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Talk to the Mods, they determine where to place articles, not us.
This article is not about Deflate-gate, but rather, the bread and circuses nature of the news coverage of said (non) event.
If I really wanted to pi$$ in folks’ Wheaties, I would have done just that.
I’m not that damned ignorant or stupid, but thanks for the confidence regardless...
Having to wade through countless threads and posts on that idiotic topic were a PITA, but I figured I’d give it a chance to die off...we’ll see.
Well, it looks like we have a difference of opinion here...
My “cause” if you will has always been about the terrible effects that the media—lamestream, driveby, Obama-lovers—whatever you call them, has had on our culture and politics.
So I really do want more FReepers to join me, with pitchforks and torches, in a march on ABC/CBS/CNN/FOX(they’re not off the hook)/NBC/PBS headquarters where we take them over—in a non-violent way, of course—kind of like a student sit-down strike of 60’s yore, until they meet our demand of fair and balanced reporting.
Aside from that fantasy, let me rephrase by comment: I have seen (and I will admit I have not read EVERY title) far more on this website about DeflateGate than the recent release of the latest batch of American-killing Islamofacists.
That is not a slur against FReepers but rather a challenge.
And, if you do not agree, fine. You can always opt out.
If only Obama was questioned 1/10th as much as Brady was at his presser.
Yeah, I get that and I support the OP. How is some made up controversy in a sport NEWS?
Why should our (FR) attention be diverted in the NEWS forum by such an inane topic (circus) vs. being moved to one of the many other forums where it would be more at home?
I am glad that we also have our priorities in order.
Along the same lines, I caught a news blurb about the highest paid state drones here in SC.
The head coach pulls a million dollars and change just in salary. No endorsements. There was a professor a few hundred grand behind and then some CTO. Nice to know sports trumps everything else.
If the exorbitant coaching salary is funded by alumni and private money, it matters not to me. However I resent my confiscated tax money going to over paid, over hyped, parasites who tell others what to do with oblong inflatable objects. That is my rant for the week.
Dude, I would suggest finding one of the MANY threads directly addressing the deflated NFL football fantasy to get an answer to your question. However, I’m sure some gracious FReeper can speculate about it.
Having said that, what do you think about the driveby newscasts devoting 68 minutes to the issue but only 34 seconds to Obama releasing 5 American-killing Islamic Terrorists back into the wild, even after some true American heroes may have died in their mission to originally capture them?
What about oblong, slighted not inflated to rule-based specification objects?
J/K!
I work at Auburn University. It is the same here. We do have some of the finest engineering and agriculture professors, many who have created some very innovative and wonderful products, designs, etc., to the benefit of all mankind, but they make a pittance compared to Gene Chizik.
If you recall PV = nRT then the footballs could have been inflated indoors and then taken out to much colder temps and Viola!, they have less pressure!
