BlackBerry's CEO John Chen wants companies to stop "discriminatory practices" against BlackBerry by not allowing them to use certain apps.
Chen called out Apple and Netflix in a blog post about net neutrality and what he called a "two-tiered wireless broadband ecosystem" where developers create apps only for iOS and Android devices.
"Unlike BlackBerry, which allows iPhone users to download and use our BBM service, Apple does not allow BlackBerry or Android users to download Apple's iMessage messaging service," he wrote.
Apple's iMessage service is only available to customers using the company's ecosystem of devices.
Calling out Netflix, Chen said the company "has discriminated against BlackBerry customers by refusing to make its streaming movie service available to them."
Netflix did not immediately respond to a request by ABC News for comment.
Creating apps is a costly and time-consuming project, which is why some developers choose to focus on iOS and Android, instead of developing for a less popular operating system, such as BlackBerry.

Developers go where the money is, if you want Netflix on your device, sell enough devices to make a demand for it, or pay netflix to write it for you.
What nonsense.

See, that alone will flip a bunch of FINOs into the pro-net-neutrality camp.

I don’t think his complaint has anything to do with net neutrality. It has to do with simple economics. Chen’s problem is that nobody wants blackberry anymore.

Quoting ...
All wireless broadband customers must have the ability to access any lawful applications and content they choose,” he wrote. “Applications/content providers must be prohibited from discriminating based on the customer’s mobile operating system.”

He’s crazy if he thinks other companies and other developers should put their money, time and effort into making his company succeed ... LOL ...

If a company wants another company to do something for them, they should negotiate and offer something in return

Hes crazy if he thinks other companies and other developers should put their money, time and effort into making his company succeed He knows they won't. That's why he's whining to the government to force them to do it.

whatsapp was pretty good back in the day. Don't know how well it works since Facebook acquired them.
My Korean relatives all use kakaotalk -- it appears to work across iPhone, Android & BB.

Thanks for the link. I remember when they news used to be about who the next "blackberry killer" would be. I remember Palm OS and the Palm Treo, the Motorola Q and others like that. Blackberry handled them easily by providing the best business-class security and management for their phones with Blackberry Enterprise Server.
Then, Apple and Android go into an apps arms race and Blackberry did nothing. It was like they figured all anybody really wanted was contacts, calendar, email, and the ability to lock down the phone of an employee who is up to no good.
To me, this whining by Blackberry are its death throes.
Speaking of Palm..remember this?

Chens problem is that nobody wants blackberry anymore. Perhaps Obama has his back, seeing that Obama is rarely without his blackberry.

Ah yes. I actually got pretty good at inputting text that way on a Handspring Visor.
Mrs F & I were big into those + all the accoutrements. We even spent $$$ on the GPS plug-in -- which was a real POS.
