ALBANY: Sheldon Silver to be arrested (Dimocrat accidentally nailed by Cuomo)

Feds subpoenaed Manhattan Democrat Silver's records in a probe of undocumented payments he received from a law firm. He is reportedly to be charged via an investigation sparked when Gov. Cuomo abruptly shut down his 2013 anticorruption commission.....Silver's arrest was related to money he received from a small real-estate tax law firm that Silver failed to list on his official financial-disclosure form. The FBI and Manhattan US Atty's office are looking into exactly what Silver did to earn the money.

Silver is a personal-injury lawyer associated with the high-profile law firm Weitz and Luxenberg. Goldberg & Iryami, w/ only two lawyers, specializes in an arcane form of law known as “tax certiorari"....challenging real-estate tax assessments, seeking reductions for developers' residential or commercial properties.

Gov Cuomo’s Moreland Commission was looking into Albany corruption ---how state lawmakers earn income from their non-government jobs---but Cuomo abruptly shut it down.

A stunning five-count criminal complaint accused the Manhattan Democrat, a state political fixture for decades, with pocketing more than $6 million in bribes and kickbacks in return for wielding his massive influence.
More than half of the $6 million came after Silver steered $500,000 in state funds to a doctor who in turn referred asbestos cases to Weitz & Luxenberg, a personal injury firm affiliated with Silver for decades.

Back a few years ago, one of his assistants was arrested at the State Capitol. Watched him being carted off in handcuffs. I believe that situation was for assaulting a woman.

EXCERPT---the stench of scandal wafts over New York....a man whose non-profit received millions from taxpayers finds himself under criminal investigation for stealing millions.

And the connections reach to the top: to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver......under investigation is the husband of Silver's top aide----William Rapfogel, who was fired last week as executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty which relies for a good chunk of its money on tax dollars, much of which has been provided by Silver and his allies via member items.

(Now in jail), Rapfogel is married to Silver’s chief of staff? Rapfogel allegedly engaged in a money-laundering scam in which the non-profit's funds were used to buy insurance policies from Century Coverage at inflated prices.....and allegedly kicked-back to the Rapfogels.

Now, Silver dispensing untraceable tax dollars to an agency run by your chief of staff’s husband would strike most people as a blatant conflict of interest. But not in Shelly Silver’s Albany. There it’s another day of business as usual. (NY POST REPORT 2014)
