If you follow the instructions it's easy. The IRS assigns you a number to file online with FreetaxUSA every year. I was not "forced" to pay for my state tax return. It is your option. I do,however pay them the 12.99 to process and submit my state taxes. Well worth it for me.

If you follow the instructions it's easy. The IRS assigns you a number to file online with FreetaxUSA every year. That's cool, but lots of people have encountered problems with the company's performance -- as in not filing their returns with the IRS -- even though they correctly followed the instructions and prompts at the site.
In fairness, others have had no issues with the site.
As with most things these days, 'caveat emptor'.
