Half Price Books, for example, was erroneously told that its new reusable bags, which cost 10 times as much as the old bags, didn’t have the right wording. Kroger was chided because signs in its parking lots weren’t in Spanish as well as English.

Half Price Books, after studying the ordinance closely, decided to invest in more expensive reusable bags to provide to shoppers. So people there were surprised when one of their Dallas stores received a warning for not having the right information on the bags.
A code inspector told store officials that their bags had to display the bag thickness. That’s true for single-use bags, but not reusable ones.

It doesn’t help that city officials still won’t clarify some aspects of the ordinance.

I would refuse bags, leave my items gathered at the bottom of the checkout register chute (assuming multiple items), carrying several items out to the car at a time, returning to reload numerous. If any items disappeared while I loaded my car, I’d call the cops and file a report for theft against the store.
or you could put them in the cart and load the items in the car and make several trips to get them to your 8th floor apartment... lol

I would refuse the bags, not pay for my purchases and leave them at the bottom of the checkout chute.

You are right the law goes into effect in California in July. All ready in some stores you can buy a cloth type bag which for food markets they are unsafe to reuse unless washed each time. Got one and washed and it was destroyed.
Desided since I reuse the plastic ones for trash, I decided to purchase a lot at Amazon. I will use them until the trash police inspect each trash can to see if they are used. Then I’m sure I will be fined and they will no longer pick up my trash.

I wish someone would take the time to examine the cost of ridiculous laws like this. Not just the economic cost, but the insane cost in lost time for people who have to spend time dealing with this.
Another example: How many hours of time does the average American have to spend on dealing with recyclable materials - rinsing out containers, flattening boxes, separating items by type, examining plastics to see if they are acceptable, ....
Another needed study is the one that examines whether the average citizen is helped or protected by any given law or whether it was only passed to improve the finances of the government, some group, or some individual. These studies need to be done by objective researches, not liberal shills.

You can buy them; you just can’t get them for free at the grocery store. Of course, this only impacts the poor folks - most rich liberals already use germ laden re-usables, and the middle class can drive to Richardson, Garland, or Plano.
