Three U.S. Marine Corps recruiters said they heard repeated honking from inside their office on Tuesday around 5:00 p.m.when they ran out to see what was going on.
We thought there was road rage involved or a fight broke loose, said Sgt. Riccardo Schebesta.
Schebesta and two other recruiters rushed outside and saw a woman yelling for help. She said, Help me; Im being robbed. I stopped paying attention to her. She's not the problem, said Staff Sgt. Ben Shoemaker. He immediately saw one of the suspects, and ran to try and catch them. Nothat kid was never going to outrun me, Shoemaker added. Marines run towards the sound of chaos. [
]
Shoemaker detained 18-year-old Diego Tavares with a technique called the arm bar. An arm bar keeps him on his feet, but keeps him compliant, said Shoemaker.

Hahaha! Reminds me of the mid-sixties. Our Latino neighbors were having trouble with her estranged husband coming over and beating her and the kids. My late father had just retired from the Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant commo chief, so he wired some push-button alarms in her house for them to push if he came back and bothered them again that would sound in our house. One day, it happened, so he vaulted over the fence, and chased the guy to his old, beat-up pickup truck, similar to the one on “Sanford and Son” but not as nice. I can still remember him standing on the running board beating the bejesus out of that pudgy Mexican like he was a pinata. We lived there another 10 years and we never saw that guy again.

And the arm bar not only controls a person but, gives the target the opportunity to decide whether or not he wants to keep his hand...

Reminds me of my former brother-in-law, recently deceased just short of 89, who at age 50 chased down a Mexican teenager who had snatched my sister’s purse in Mexicali, Mexico, retieving the purse. He was president of the San Diego Track Club.

I wonder what the USMC office uniform is?
Though for just a second there, I imagined the Marines wearing their dress uniform, with ceremonial swords, chasing down a “yoot”.

Who the heck tries to run with a baseball bat in his pants? I have no choice, I was born that way.

He should have broken his arm as in “Oops he struggled we slipped and I heard a crack. Sorry officer”
A few years ago a couple of ne'er do wells in their late teens tried to rob a tourist outside at the Fruitvale Bart station. They used a knife. The tourist apparently was schooled in combatives (Krav Maga?)
The would be victim took the knife away from the kid and used it on him and punched the other dirtbag. Did a pretty good job. The kid managed to run home and die. His parents were distressed that he got killed but the police took the opinion “Play stupid games win stupid prizes” Case closed. The other dirt bag got charged with his friends killing. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/BART-holdup-victim-grabs-knife-kills-robber-3171430.php
