Venezuela, mired in a recession and with the highest inflation rate in the Americas, is suffering from chronic shortages of goods ranging from diapers to flour that have worsened this year due to an ebb in deliveries during Christmas.
The scarcity of goods has forced many shoppers across the OPEC nation to queue up in front of supermarkets before dawn. The inflation rate hit 63.6 percent in the 12 months to November.
The MUD accused National Guard troops posted to maintain order outside shops of banning photos and videos of the lines that sometimes snake around blocks.
"Not only is the government forcing people to get into humiliating queues... it also wants the lines to be 'Cuban-style,' silent and terrified," said MUD chief Jesus Torrealba.

This Socialist Model will soon be playing in a nation near you. :)

“I expect that will soon give sell oil rights for the next 20-50 years just to try and head off the inevitable.”
The already did that, they owe oil to China on the money they borrowed.
Are they lining up to purchase Obama logowear?
Venezuela is certainly on the ropes. Their Socialist economy will not survive.
On the other hand Russia is a little more tricky since they are economically, like China , Capitalist.
Moreover, China is helping them out, and getting dirt cheap oil while they are at it.
Hey where is Sean Penn???
Having a pity party with Joe Kennedy Jr?
This is why I think once the Castro brothers leave the political scene from Cuba, you will see Cuba turn into Western Hemisphere equivalent of China--probably within ten years! The Cubans very well know that they are sitting on a gigantic economic gold mine and they're not going squander that potential.
I wonder if he can still smell the sulfur.
Milton Friedman once said that, if you put the government in charge of the Sahara desert, therell eventually be a shortage of sand. No wonder that, after 14 years of socialist government, Venezuela the country with the worlds largest oil reserves is currently importing gasoline, and there are shortages of everything else.
Need to add a bit more Gulag to the socialist stew.
Venezuela == The future of America under those like Barry Soweto.
Surely those people know that by the time they get to the front of the line there won’t be anything left.
I’m not sure another dictator won’t take Castro’s place.
We haven't tried it yet in the United States. Our Socialists are smarter, more compassionate, more educated than the others who went before. They will make it work this time...
Just watch...
“One of the first agreements was signed with the American company Chevron in May 2013. The deal included a $2 billion loan by Chevron to Pdvsa to cover the state oil companys portion of investment in an oil field across Lake Maracaibo from Mene Grande.
But it also included provisions sought by Chevron to guarantee that the new loan, as well as millions of dollars in unpaid dividends from past operations, would be paid promptly from oil revenues...”
This almost sounds hopeful, but I pinch myself and remind myself that alas, Chevron is probably not really an “American” oil company. It may have some good Americans working for it, but I suspect its upper echelons are very much in alignment with the ptb. I DO hope I’m wrong.
The right people just haven’t been in charge.
That crowd still looks well-fed. They might revolt when they get skinny enough.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.
