Hollywood bans adults, teens from playgrounds unless accompanied by child

(Hollywood police say there have been problems with adults hanging around Anniversary Park. Hollywood commissioners approved new rules last week that would require adults and anyone over the age of 13 who enter city-owned playgrounds to be in the company of a child 12 and under. Susan Stocker / Sun Sentinel File)

If you're hanging around a playground without a child under 13, don't be surprised if a cop asks you to leave.

In a bid to protect children and the swings they play on, Hollywood commissioners agreed last week to ban adults and teens from the city's playgrounds unless they're in the company of a child age 12 or younger.

Do men have a right to be in women’s restrooms? Do adults have a right to hang around elementary schools?

Neither toilets nor elementary schools are public spaces, either by design or by function. They are public accommodations. They are not financed or maintained for the purpose of public recreation. Parks, however, are.

I don't know how it works where you live, but in our school district any tax payer can enter a school by appointment. I wouldn't call that hanging out though and spending time with bureaucrats would not strike me are recreation.

There is a great park here in my little town. I pay for it's maintenance. Sometimes when it's sunny and warm I'll take a book there, buy an iced tea and read in the sun for an hour. I enjoy that. The park has playground equipment and kids running around. Why should the cops be able to run me off?

Just stay off the baby swings. You’re too heavy.
