Police proceeded to break down the walls to with armored vehicles to restrict his movement, and shot teargas into the house until 61 hours had passed, when they finally realized their suspect had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

To serve (warrants) and protect (their pensions)

This is what happens when the police can’t relieve a little stress by shooting a dog.
It’s the county sheriff apparently. I’ll take that case. They are going to buy this family some college educations, a brand new house with a swimming pool and financial security for life. However, the dad cannot be replaced. These sheriffs are evil. No one does this to serve a warrant. You wait until you can pick the dude up on a traffic stop. If the dude had a DWI lawyer, the case against the evil sheriff gets worse.
How cool! Just like the video games they played as kids. Or maybe still play.

Agree, if he had been poor and wanted, even on rape charges, they still likely wouldn’t have bothered with him until he was stopped for something else.
But DUI...that means BIG BUCKS to government, so have at it!
Absolutely!
No amount of force is excessive when WE apply it.
Apparently someone did. And why did they do it? Because they could.
With the facts as presented here, what possible justification can there be for involving any agency other than Tompkins County Sheriff’s office? Why didn’t they call in the FBI while they were at it? This is beyond disgusting! This is only a few miles from where I grew up and I went to school with kids from Danby many, many years ago.
“”The Ithaca Journal reported that over a dozen agencies were involved with the standoff, including Ithaca Police Department, Cornell University Police, Ithaca College Public Safety, Ithaca Fire Department, New York State Police, New York State Park Police, Cayuga County Sheriffs Office, Pennsylvania State Police, Syracuse Police Department, Elmira Police Department, Broome County Sheriffs Office, Onondaga County Sheriffs Office, and Tompkins County Office of Emergency Management.””
They will pay. And all of them should be fired.
If police ripped down my walls to serve a warrant there would be a firefight.

I didn’t look at the poster but assumed Behind Liberal Lines was on top of this.....he will be now and perhaps with more information as to just why this was called for.
“No one does this to serve a warrant.”.......
Apparently in New York they do. I can see something like this happening when you have a sheriff’s dept. with officers poorly trained or poorly LEAD. Unfortunately for ALL sheriff or police departments, poorly or well trained, they all get a “black eye” for it. I am not saying I support those poorly trained people for the over reacting. You can serve warrants much simpler than what these fools did.

"Hey guys, we got us an incident, come show off your tacticool gear!"

Quite a cast of involved characters. Still waters run deep.
