So here’s my son’s dilemma. He used to work as a pizza driver if he were between jobs. The boss would give 36-38 hours a week and it was the best way for a young man to pick up fast and decent money to carry him through until he could get something solid.

He’s doing this now. But he’s only getting 6-10 hours. The most anyone is getting is 17.

Why? Companies can’t go over the magic 20 hours before benefits kick in (thanks to Obama), so now minimum wage jobs won’t give you the hours.

The only way to get by is to have two-three min wage jobs, but then the schedules start to conflict. Bosses want their employees to be available.

It’s a real frustration all the way around.

God, that sounds like my nephew. He always goes back to pizza delivery when he’s having trouble.

(I wish he had stuck with McDonald’s management track, but, hey, it’s my nephew!)

You must be in California, New York, Illinois, or one of the other liberal states that call “Full time” 20 hours. Those states also have higher minimum wages that kick in at those hours.
