I don’t understand: Is Nigeria instituting conscription? Are they mobilizing their entire military? I cannot imagine anything like Boko Haram’s repeated kidnappings, murders and massacres happening week after week here without a full scale war ensuing on the part of the U.S.A. Nigeria, however, just doesn’t seem to be doing much about Boko Haram. I know there have been some accusations that the Nigerian powers that be actually secretly support BH, but still.

Nigeria is split into a mainly Christian South and a mostly Muslim North. They have significant quantities of oil but the wells are all in the South. Boko Haram operates in the North East section of the country. Between what we would consider astonishing levels of corruption, and the divided loyalties of Northern Muslims, the Nigerian Army may not always be as effective or fully armed and trained to face the challenge.

The Obama administration's unwillingness to declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization until very recently may also have interfered with a resolution to the conflict.
