As long as they count Indians (from India) as “blacks” then they’ll have no trouble meeting the quota ...

They’ll do what most consumer brands do - hire a black woman as “diversity officer” and have her hold a lot of meetings and “training sessions.”

Well, now Intel will go downhill just as other companies have who have become ‘diverse’ simply for the purpose of ‘diversity’.

I think if I was a white male who was going to loose his job in the name of diversity I would suddenly become gay. OK not really but I would tell them that I suddenly was not interested in the Victoria’s Secret catalog and was able to dance and wanted to have a part in decorating my office.

Hasn’t Intel fallen behind in it’s release of new processors? I’ve not checked in awhile but last I did their latest procs weren’t much better than what was already released.

Just think if we lived in a country where companies and business managers were free to hire the most skilled percon available for the job.

The US would be the world leader - like we were before the social engineers started running the show.

There won't be much change from what you say -

“...available in the market for specific job categories...”

- are the lawyerly weasel words in their statement.

Intel is notorious for this kind of nonsense. They have so many Indian and Chinese engineers it is ridiculous. They are one of the companies that continues to utilize large number of H1B visa holders (and they beg for more). They have driven engineering wages down and really don’t care. US engineers frequently do the majority of work and some hack Indian takes the credit.

PLUS Intel is notorious for hiring way too many staff during the ‘up’ times and then sacking them as soon as there is a hiccup in any market

I retired out of Lockheed in Silicon Valley a few years ago. These are not "lawyerly weasel words" they are a reflection of reality.

Engineering is one of those fields where affirmative action just does not apply. If you are a good engineer, everyone you interact with knows it and recognizes your talent. If you are not a good engineer, everyone knows that also, and can spot it a mile away. We hired black engineers, but the number was in proportion to the percentage of good black engineers in the pool of candidates. If they were not in the top few percent of all engineers, everyone knew it and they were not accepted. If a minority engineer who was only "modestly good" was promoted to fill a quota people would transfer out of his department in droves.

That wasn't the case when I worked at Hughes and GMHE,

The govt. forced the hiring, and those “modestly good” black engineers you mention were soon transferred to production test.

They were hired though.
