Glenn Grothman a Sellout? Give Me A Break
Right Wisconsin ^ | January 6, 2015 | Collin Roth

Posted on 01/07/2015 7:49:35 AM PST by Sideshow Bob

Welcome to Washington, Congressman Grothman.

Glenn Grothman's very first vote as a member of Congress, a vote in favor of John Boehner for Speaker, earned the ire of RedState.com Editor in Chief Erick Erickson who declared Grothman "all talk."

"There will be no standing up by Glenn Grothman. Elections have a way of voluntarily and willingly neutering congressmen."

Critics of Grothman are pointing to Grothman's willingness during the summer primary to criticize Boehner's leadership in the House and suggest that he would vote against the sitting Speaker in 2015.

“I would have no problem looking for an alternative to Speaker Boehner,” Grothman said in a candidate debate Aug. 1. “I have no problem standing up to Republican leadership.”

So is Grothman a sell-out? One of those spineless RINOs? A member of the Establishment?

Please....

Yes, Grothman sold out for a key committee assignment.

I posted all during the primary to Wisconsin FReepers that Duey Stroebel was the better AND more conservative choice. One FReeper in particular - a GOPe flack from Mequon - took great umbrage at my declaration that I didn't trust Grothman because:

a) he was a lawyer
b) he was a 22-year career politician seeking to replace a 37-year career politician
c) he didn't live in the congressional district at the declaration of his candidacy
d) he was never married and never raised a family
e) he was a weirdo loner who further removed himself from the experiences of his constituents because he doesn't watch TV or movies

I hate to say I told you so, but...

I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!

If the TEA Party in a state endorsed one of the phony conservatives, they ought to be honest enough to apologize for leading the voters astray in Nov.
And they ought to promise to more throughly vet all candidates in 2016.

Grothman votes to return Boehner to the Speaker’s chair. We shall see if this allows Grothman the opportunity to shape the agenda in the future. We shall see.

I disagree with Sideshow Bob’s assessment of Grothman, whom I have known for more than 20 years, but I am puzzled as to why Grothman cast this particular vote. As I said, we shall see.

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.

Just because a republican votes for something you don’t like doesn’t mean he is a RINO. Can we please stop the circular firing squad and concentrate on getting these people to pass the legislation we want? This vote was sealed once there was more than one conservative running against Boehner. I can’t blame Grothman for refusing to participate in a fools errand.

“So is Grothman a sell-out? One of those spineless RINOs? A member of the Establishment?”

Yes.

And the first sigh that a person gives showing they are
lying and can’t back up what they are about to say is to
use the word “Please” as if that alone is proof they
know what they are saying. Collin Roth sounds like a
weak butboy for a spineless RINO.

“Grothman said he would have “no problem looking for an alternative” to Boehner. The reality is, there were no viable or even qualified alternatives.”

His point? A lie. A mangy dog would have been better
and more qualified (sober) than Boner.

The list of TEA Party sell-outs is now quite large. Time to clean house!

Colin Roth’s article is the art of attempted political cover. Grothman went back on his word plain and simple. He said he was going to shake up the establishment for his constituents (like me) and instead joined them on the one vote and HIS FIRST VOTE where he could prove his words were true.

To give him a pass because “there was no viable candidate” so he never went against his word was an embarrassment to the entire Right Wisconsin brand (which I am also a subscriber to).

I was just fine with Grothman going as my representative as Dewey reeks of a career politician too...already running for State Senate seat now, but not worth fighting over that right now.

The thought that Grothman was ever going to get great appointments to committees is also laughable because he’s the exact type of person the GOPe wants to keep on the back bench for your e and the fact that he is very outspoken on social ills via the welfare program.

He was voted in to shake up DC and it didn’t take long for him to make his word mud.

2 years from now we get another shot.

the house was cleaned in November.

The election of the Speaker does not preclude Tea Party legislation in the coming session

The voters elected their representatives and the representatives elected their leader.

The GOP is dead, dead, dead.

Go through its pockets and look for loose change.

“Just because a republican votes for something you don’t like doesn’t mean he is a RINO.”

In this case it sure does. When you get burned by someone
you were fooled into supporting and it turns out it’s a RINO
the liberal thing to do is to justify it or act like it’s no
big deal. The conservative thing to do is to admit that you
were made the fool and try not to let it happen again.

Don’t know him personally AFTR but I’d be very curious to hear his explanation as he isn’t jumping onto radio shows like he was when running...frankly he’s ducking this and letting others try and justify the vote.

Your personal relationship aside, I can’t see how any of us that voted to send him there can see this as anything short of betrayal.

I can’t blame Grothman for refusing to participate in a fools errand.

I blame Grothman for failing to stand up for conservative principles.

There is no way any honest conservative could support Boehner for Speaker. Therefore, Grothman sold out his conservative principle in exchange for either his personal benefit of a more prestigious committee assignment or some potential future benefit - some "greater good" - to his constiuents.

Either way, Grothman sold out.

Yes, by all means, let’s stop the “circular firing squad” and go to the fire all being from one direction -— FROM the GOPe and DIRECTED at Tea Party and constitutional conservative Republicans.

By the way, I’m seeing no shortage of apologists coming forth to defend newly elected Congress critters BETRAYING the base that sent them to Washington based upon their pre-election promises. I consider these apologists to be even less than “summer soldiers” and abandon the fight at the first mention of the mere possibility of hostile fire.

There’s a whole lot of excuse-making going on this morning.

Roger that!

And so far, I've seen excuses from a dozen or so supposed Conservative congressmen who voted FOR Boehner, trying to explain that there was simply not enough votes there to get past the 29-vote threshold (after the final count was 25).

Liars and frauds all of them.

“The election of the Speaker does not preclude Tea Party legislation in the coming session”

Especially when this particular speaker just supported and helped
pass a bill that leaves the tea party out of of any say on
the budget for a year. Get real his job is to suppress the
tea party and help Jeb or what ever preferred Northeastern
Communist Block RINO they decide to shove down our throat
again.

He is not a Sellout. He is a Republican. That is what Republicans do. They may not defy the Leader of the House, the Hon. Mrs. Pelosi. The US House has a new mumbler speaker but the Leader has not changed. Same with the Majority Leader in the Senate. The Senate is still run by Harry Reid.
