Balderdash.

Boner was going to get re-elected regardless of how many rallies we held.

This has to be done at a LOCAL level. YOU have to hold your congress-critters responsible. I did mine....I told him a vote for Boner was a vote against him in the next primary...and a "sitting out" in the general...and he voted for Gohmert...and probably cost himself any influence in the 114th congress. I'm proud of him...and will tell him such.

If you really want to know why we have a problem...its that too many (R)'s in other parts of this country aren't willing to do the same. That's the reason you all gave us McCain and Romney.

I’ve thought the same (except for him being newly minted conservative); it seems obvious to me though he enjoyed such triumphant success at the ballot box because he had that movie star status. This whole idea of a “Reagan Democrat” seems fanciful.

The majority of people who voted for him did so because they knew him from the movies. That, and they wanted a change from Carter and his gloomy nature and weak leadership and so his party in general.

He was undoubtedly re-elected though because of how he turned the country around economically. I don’t think his movie star status played much of a role then. He was more “the President” in everyone’s mind at that point.

This is all patently obvious though examining our “culture” (or really lack thereof) today. It’s not like the 80’s were much different. People generally didn’t follow politics now or then so they had no idea how conservstive he was when they voted for him. They just voted for him (for much the same reason many voted for Republicans last year) simply because they wanted a change and hated the party in power at the moment. Since he was a movie star too that helped push his initial national landslide victory. Also being from CA and their governor for two terms (obviously a success there too) garnered him their massive electoral vote cache, a victory usually relegated to the Democrat.

There will sadly not be another Reagan unless another well known national figure rises up and enters into politics. One well known for other achievements not a political career. There may be some excellent conservative candidates to run (Cruz, Walker, etc) but they won’t have the drawing power of a Reagan and indeed will be polarizing most likely (because of the media portrayal of such a candidate).

The fact is this: this country isn’t conservative at all. At best it’s moderste. The driving force behind Joe Six-pack’s vote is his own wallet. Until and unless the pluses of conservatism are laid plain, simply explained how they benefit the average person, most won’t vote for such a candidate as they will prefer the path of least resistance. Which is government dependence of some sort. Be it depending on financial aid, to federal intrusion into land disputes or federalization of the education system. It’s all easier to do (or not do) if someone else is doing the work.

So until people see the value of conservatism, understand it, we will always be voting for the one who looks the best on TV. And I don’t think we can rely on luck to give us another Reagan that way.

This thread wasn't designed to be a pity party ...

So ... a genuine "thanks" for the Segway here ...

Several months in the future "Obama-Boehner Event ABC-XYZ" will require a massive public-political action ...

Question-1 : Should Free Republic even consider getting involved ? (Yes/No)

Question-2 : "IF" yes ... how should Free Republic be "pre-organized" for an EFFECTIVE response

2-A) "Free Republic Action Teams" set-up in advance ?

2-B) "Free Republic Action Teams" set-up in ALL fifty-seven (57) state chapters ?

2-C) "Information Infrastructure" (Congressional Telephone Numbers, Rally Locations) already be set-up and ready ?

2-D) Free Republic "coordination" with other Patriot groups ?

2-D-1) Red State (Erick Erickson) ?

2-D-2) Freedom Works (Matt Kibbe) ?

2-D-3) Overpassses For America (James Neighbors) ?

2-D-4) National Tea Party Patriots (Daveda Gruber) ?

2-D-5) Overpasses for Impeachment (Roger Ogden) ?

2-D-6) Stop The Busses (Stella)?

2-D-6) Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Beck, Josh Bernstein, Jon Matthews, Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Davis, Joe Pags, etc.

2-D-7) Tea Party / 912 STATE groups

2-D-8) THE DRUDGE REPORT media interface contact

2-D-9) An "Action-Rally Graphic/Tag-Link" on the Free Republic website masthead ?

Only Jim Robinson can decide this question for Free Republic; after all he's the Founder and genius behind Free Republic.

"Thanks" Big Red Badger for asking the $ 10 million dollar question ...

I "almost" take offense at your remark about "my" (falsely) giving America McCain and Romney ..

However, I'm sure that you didn't direct that at me personally.

” This war ain’t over.”

No it isn’t, but it will be up to the states to stop this. Over the last 20 years, the big money, deep pockets folks bought off the majority in D.C. Both parties.

Winning isn’t an event. It’s a process. Polls showed only 12% of R’s wanted the twin idiots in charge.

It wasn’t up to us. Maybe it should be.

He won by a single vote. It’s not a mandate.

I figured he’d have learned something, and not retaliate (ala Lincoln). He’s not a bright guy.

Let’s see if he lives up to all our expectations. If so, we’ll have squandered a generational mandate, and perhaps in the bargain proved that the system of government we currently have in place doesn’t work.

That’s going to be an interesting experiment to watch.

” We’ll be strident, loud, obnoxious, and in their face as much as we need to be until we get what we want.”

Like I just posted, the fight will have to emanate from individual (hopefully many) states. Many FReepers don’t even do a minimal background check on the so-called “conservative du jour”. Gowdy for example is a traitor on his pro-amnesty position alone, yet there are STILL many FReepers who believe he is a conservative. Another example is AZ Martha McSally. Look who her biggest donors are. U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Wall Street. Want to guess how she will be on amnesty? An f’n no brainer! Also, Boehner flew to AZ to pitch her. Any question who she will side with on other issues? No

” We got punched. Ok. Spit the tooth out, and find a way to punch back, harder.

F*** ‘em all.”

It will be a war, nothing less.I wonder if enough people have the stomach for it. That is the big question. You can’t do it with money, we don’t have enough of it.

” In 1966 SoCal was American suburbia. A land of aerospace engineers and surfers.

Today, in 2015, we are a colony of the 3rd world. We imported poverty and people whose native cultures think that the government should do things for them. And it’s not just illegals from Mexico who think that.

Welcome to post-America. We already see what it looks like in Cali. When Boehner collaborates with Obama to pass amnesty this year the rest of the country will join us.”

At least 500,000 very wealthy Californians have left over the past 10 years. They saw the writing on the wall. The middle and upper middle classes are leaving too. If it weren’t for rich Hollywood people, and rich, left wing techies, California would have already collapsed.

Over the past year, it became rather obvious that the "Republicans" (Whatever and whoever TF THEY are)were going to sweep the mid-terms.

Despite looming victory, there was never any Program,or Plan to implement it, nor did any true Leader emerge to direct a coherent, mature effort to return to Constitutional government.

IMNVHO, the basic problem:
A modern bureaucratic federal government based on top-down federal social programs that affect every citizen simply cannot be conducted under the parameters set forth in our Constitution.

That leaves two choices:
(1) Forget the Constitution
(2) Forget the form of government that evolved during the 20th C., particularly in the 1930's - 2000 period, acknowledge the structure outlined in the Constitution, and particularly revive the role of the sovereign States.

Since so many citizens identify their economic well being, comfort, luxury, and safety with that 20thC, '30s-forward period and the form of government it spawned, a majority of them see no need for structural change. When they say they are dissatisfied with government, what they really mean is that some aspect of their personal economic status, comfort, luxury, or safety has been threatened and they want those prerequisites back and don't care what the government they dislike has to do, whether constitutional or not, to get them their imagined benefits back.

The people they elect to represent them, by and large share their views. That's only natural. Incidentally, the people they have chosen to represent them enjoy the greatest possible economic benefit from making the wishes of their constituents come true, or at least promising to do so, and have successfully evolved into a true ruling class. Their role: intercede on behalf of important clients (donors) with the federal bureaucracy that directs the government, to minimize the impact of their rulings on operations on their profits.

It comes down to this: to vote against Boehner and for constitutionally controlled government yesterday, would have personally cost your elected representative the potential of personally earning many millions of dollars and quite possibly lose him a position of power in Congress, or anywhere else near government. A party label means very little in this context.

The people elected in 2014 very carefully avoided any mention of Program, Plan, or Leader in their campaigns. They are banking on the wishes of the dissatisfied being personal, rather than public. They plan to enjoy the spoils of victory under the current system, not reform it in any way except rhetorically.

I’ll take this choice. The big money discovered that they could buy almost ALL D.C. politicians, and over the last 20-30 years, have done so.

What we really need is for a good cross section of 10 million Americans to join FR, and NOT Rove trolls. Lacking that, we need a grass roots fight at the STATE level, starting NOW.
