Correct. As senate majority leader, LBJ killed a voting rights bill pushed by the Eisenhower Administration because he said it would violently split the Democratic Party between the Dixiecrats and urban liberals.

Only person so far to accurately clarify/state the history as I understand it. Johnson performed a political masterstroke with that tactic. It has kept Democrats in power ever since.

It was also the final straw that broke the camel's back, but it was inevitable once Republicans removed the requirement of paying taxes from voting.

"Entitlements" are what is killing us now. Things will burn and people will die becomes of the perverse incentives this system has created.
