Some think Jim Webb could be the liberal Democratic alternative to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Perhaps it's more likely, though, that Webb could position himself as something the Democratic Party or any party, really hasn't seen in some time: the vocal champion of the working-class white man.
The former Virginia senator offered this critique of his party to Matt Bai over at Yahoo!, and it sounds like something that you might hear on the campaign trail going forward.
I think this is where Democrats screw up, you know? Webb said. I think that they have kind of unwittingly used this group, white working males, as a whipping post for a lot of their policies. And then when they react, they say they're being racist.
Rather than run as a liberal (which he is not, in a whole host of ways), Webb could run as a kind of anti-Hillary. He would be an explicit counter to the sort of progressive, feminist narrative that would inherently undergird a Clinton run. He would also be the anti-Obama, a break from the sort of identity politics around race, gender and ethnicity that have, in Webb's telling, excluded working-class white men.
(A white woman running for president after the nation's first black president could certainly underscore the "what about us" feeling among this demographic.)

Webb has no chance. He’s done as soon as people are apprised of the more sordid excerpts from the novels he’s written.
I could vote for Jim Webb.
But the problem is the Democratic Party looks down on white men like me with contempt.
I haven’t changed while the Democratic Party has moved to the Far Left.
Which is why it could but it won’t - nominate Jim Webb as its presidential candidate.
Be careful what you wish for, Nia-Malika. The last Democrats who were vocal champions of the working white man were the ones who instituted Jim Crow, segregation and the violent oppression of minorities.
She is in effect tacitly admitting that “The One” has soured the taste of race relations and acceptance of “color” solely based on color, for GENERATIONS.
Articulate, crease in his pants, clean young man - all that don’t mean sh!t. He’s a Muslim racist. And now, they’re trying to find a way to move beyond all the dissention they’ve created because of him and his color.
The Democrats have a white flight problem.
Obama and Hillary are its face.
Not completely on topic but worth the look.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzaz3fn7GLg
“I could vote for Jim Webb.”
Über RINO and über Romney supporter Hugh Hewitt has been pushing Webb.
Not to mention ....
QUIT as Secretary of the Navy
DID NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION as Senator from Virginia
LOSER.
A moderate loser.
But that speaks volumes about the empty Democratic bench for 2016.
WSJ story yesterday says Hillary’s numbers in Iowa are worse than 2008 when she ran third in the D primary.
Another failure of Ms. Inevitable? Could be on the way.
Hillary’s big problem is men don’t cotton to her.
Because she’s a woman, she has difficulty relating to white male working stiffs.
Sucks to be her.
Because she reminds them of their Mother-in-Law, ex-wife, and 4th grade teacher all wrapped up into one
Vote for Webb, the nation needs more man-boy love fantasies
Not to mention the women’s hockey coach, and that middle aged unmarried coke-bottle glasses wearing librarian of an uncertain persuasion
Is that what he put in his novels?
“LOSER”
He also made his aide take the fall for bringing Webb’s pistol into DC.
I still think Hillary is unelectable. The only people who really relate to her are fat drunken dykes, bitter ex-wives, and young women who can’t get dates. And they only relate to her, they don’t love her. Nobody really loves her, because she is simply not loveable.
Fauxahanotas will be dragged to the nomination with much faux protesting as the “reluctant candidate.” To the leftists who control the democrat party and their stooges in the media/entertainment/academia propaganda complex, she is everything Hillary is not, and everything they want.
Good point, I forgot about that!
I would say among the Democrats, Jim Webb is probably the LEAST HARMFUL ( which is not saying much ).
