We should show the IRS the same sympathy they show the taxpayer that does’t have enough funds to pay their taxes.
Then I suggest we make the tax code smaller so that it is easier to manage.
+1. Great post.
Abolish the IRS and start over.

No, no. Then then tax code would be.
1. "How much money did you make last year?"
2. "Send it in!"
Gosh. Maybe the IRS could stop throwing lavish parties at exotic locations for themselves. Or maybe cut back on all the bonuses they award themselves? Even better, make the IRS “workers” pay their taxes?!!
I’d like to see all federal agencies automatically terminated every 10 years, and only continued by a specific new vote for a new statement of purpose and reorganization.
Just keep cutting the budget until they are out of business.
Congress! Withhold the money until they confess and repent of their sins or until there is no one left standing in the IRS administration building...
Pretty easy to administer a sales tax.
Every state and municipality already has this structure in place.
And some sort of “term limits” for people working there.
I know you “lose” people with experience,
but in the case of gov’t, that’s a GOOD THING.
6. Government uses the tax code as a political instrument to favor or punish political constituencies as little as ONE taxpaying entity. The recent scandal using the IRS to target conservative 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) groups is clear proof of this.
Now you know the reason for my tagline.
So, with less funds they won’t be making Star Trek episodes for themselves. Just cut out the movies and parties and training, you will be fine!
Drop obamacare and that will free up a lot of resources.
Easy, ditch the gazillion page manuals and make it a flat tax and no one will be overworked.
I’m a tax accountant who has had to work with the IRS on behalf of my clients for many decades. Folks, you have always had lousy service. Do you really think any body cares if the IRS doesn’t get funded? I sure don’t.
Speaking of IRS long wait times. One time I was on hold to some IRS office and decided to write a letter to the Regional Commissioner and my client’s Congressman while on hold, which last over an hour. The Congressman’s office followed through and got some excuse from the IRS.
The IRS doesn’t give a damn about service, unless they are “servicing” a taxpayer.
It’s too late for the IRS to cry wolf. They have already screwed the pooch. ( Taxpayers.)
Here’s a radical idea...
Simplify the tax code...
It can be a index card size for individual returns...
