maybe a bunch of fence sitters will openly break with the Speaker. The fence sitters now are looking at the gamble, whether to risk not-killing-the-king, and loss of privileges/chairmanships. However, there is the other side of this coin...
With Boehner on the losing side, these pols risk not being right with the new non-Boehner speaker, and loss of privileges/chairmanships doled out by a new speaker. They will be relegated to the back bench, keeping boehner company.

Even if Boehner loses, it doesn't mean one of the present alternatives win. There's enough GOP-E types to either force a compromise candidate OR to back off on any purges or retribution.
