A diktat from EU chiefs will impose power limits on all new cookers as a way of saving energy.
The unelected officials say they will save people up to £32 a year, but critics fear ovens will take longer to heat and render traditional recipes useless.
The ruling will require new energy efficiency requirements for ovens, hobs and range hoods by next month.
More rules to be brought in on February 26 for electric and gas ovens will limit cavity size and wattage.
But retailers will still be able to sell existing models, which could prompt a shopping frenzy as people rush to snap up high-powered cookers before they run out.
Campaigners say the rules are yet another case of the European Com- mission interfering in private lives.
Jayne Adye of cross-party group Get Britain Out, a Cordon Bleu chef, said: By limiting the power of new ovens and cooker hoods, housewives will need to change recipes and all our cook books will be useless.
Meals will take longer to cook and cakes and food will be ruined. Increasingly, our freedom of choice is being eroded.
Ukip MEP Gerard Batten called the new rules incompetent and unwanted. The British parliament decided to hand over energy policy to Brussels a long time ago, he said. The only way to deal with it is to leave the EU or just put up with it.

Coming soon to Amerika.
By the time the “progressives” are done, we’ll be left with refrigerators/freezers that are better for thawing out food, stoves/ranges that don’t work, toilets that have to be flushed 10x per visit, washers that don’t wash, and dryers that don’t dry.
That sounds like REAL progress.... Hardly “Progressive”, as their name would imply.
We should instead refer to them as.... “Regressives”!
That was my first thought, but they would probably go to prison for having one of those in their house.
This could be the break that saves the 100 watt incandescent light bulb!
Europe can never regulate this.
They tried, and so did America with lightbulbs.
Their shit lightbulbs made many people rich.
But, it was a scam.
Then you got LED lightbulbs which are perfect AND envvironmentally good.
These are marxists.
Wanting to control everything.
The usurper killed the incandescent light bulb and now he’ll be taking notes on ovens.
I’m surprised the French pastry businesses didn’t squash this idea.
Have you tried a tiny cake cooked under a CFL (curly f****** light)?
Gee, Jayne, you catch on fast!
In case you haven't noticed, the only "choice" the Left cares one whit about, is that you "choose" to kill a baby in your womb. Everything else - well, they will DICTATE your "choice."
There are some people now who are concerned that LED lights can cause people to get cataracts. I heard this on the radio a few weeks ago. It doesn’t really matter to me since we have enough regular light bulbs that our grandkids should have plenty.
I hated the enviro bulbs. Light was shit. If it broke it was an evironmental hazard.
Who knows, our eyes where not made for artificial light.
Yet, the sun, gives us light, and more eye damage than we can ask for.
If you keep staring at it.
I am surfing on freerepublic on a 52 inch plasma screen.
It is the best for movies. It gets the dark and black right.
But, EU outlawed it, becaused it used to much electricity.
Then everyone had to buy LCD screens.
Now, anno Domino 2015, LED TV’s are the thing.
We are being played for fools.
Not all of us are playing along.
I loved it when my dad bought this tv.
He is a fisherman so known the environment.
But, when the salesman started his environmental crap.
My dad told him to get the biggest tv, that uses the most electrisity.
LED bulbs are alright. They give you a nice light like Edison’s light bulbs. The think in the middle lever did.
I also think LED is for now the future of TV and computer screens.
Sometimes a techknology is just better.
Not up to the EU to decide, or Obama,
Let the market decide.
Didn’t CA outlaw it also?
I feel like suing the gov’t because I can’t see anything.
