Boehner losing ground in bid to keep post

WASHINGTON – The latest head-count shows House Republicans may be within 15 votes of making the first step toward dethroning Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, by forcing a second ballot.

The effort by GOP House members to oust Boehner is gaining momentum, but most of the action on Capitol Hill Monday is obscured from view, with the cajoling and arm-twisting for votes taking place behind closed doors.

Even many of the most conservative Republicans who would be the most likely to vote against Boehner are playing it close to the vest, because, if the speaker survives the coup, he could retaliate by stripping lawmakers of prized committee assignments and chairmanships.

Members have to make a monumental decision, and they have to make it fast: The vote for House Speaker is Tuesday, and Boehner’s two challengers announced their candidacies just over the weekend, Reps. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and Ted Yoho, R-Fla.

WND’s Joseph Farah has begun the grass-roots “Don’t Be Yellow: Dump Boehner Now!” campaign, which has already sent some 560,000 letters to House Republicans attempting to mobilize the palace coup.

But it looks like the voters have their back. WND reader’s have ordered to have delivered more than 500,000 letters urging House members to fire the speaker in its “Dump Boehner” campaign. And a recent poll found 60-percent of Republican voters want a new speaker.

WND has contacted 65 Republican House members, including the most conservative lawmakers, to ask who they would vote for, and why, but it appears most are waiting to see how much traction the Boehner mutiny gains before casting their lots.

For instance, a spokesman for staunch conservative Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., told WND, “He’s keeping his options open.”

In the You and I world this would result in criminal charges being filed. But in Washington it is just politics as usual. This is exactly How people like Boehner remain in power.

If they vote to re-elect Boehnor, hopefully their constituents will retaliate against them.

When you are plotting to overthrow the King, you are not going to talk about it on Fox News. If the plot fails, everyone involved will deny all knowledge. The exceptions are those who have gone public and they don’t need the Speaker or the Party to help them win reelection and aren’t expecting some juicy committee assignment.

Why would a Congressman vote to keep that sword over his head for the next two years, when they can simply end the House tyranny now?

I’m sure Calista agrees with him. I’m surprised he didn’t say “Calista and I are committed to Boner”. Calista this and Calista that. It got old quick.

little Miss Rino Bo Peep Bushbot Dana

That's Miss Dana P. Rino to you!

I caught that bit of the Five on the satellite radio driving home. When 60% of Republican voters from just last November want Boehner gone, that is not "far right". That is the majority of Republican voters! Shame on Bolling for veering into Ted Baxter "middle of the road" nonsense.

" By Monday afternoon January 5th, 2015 ... SCORES (143) of GOP House Representatives had agreed to vote for Congressman Louis Gohmert (TX Tea Party) for the next House Speaker ! "

Y'know, it might be best not to post stuff like this if it isn't true... OTOH if you know something the rest of us don't know please elucidate...

They can’t end the tyranny now. Boehner was selected by the House Republican caucus (without opposition, as I recall). The rebels know they’re rebels. They’re just trying to extract concessions, which may be as simple as replacing Boeher with some other RINO who would behave the same as Boehner. But it would demonstrate practical muscle instead of them just spouting meaningless words.

On the Special Report panel AB Stoddard (or whatever her name is) condescendingly informed us peasants that the time to oppose Boehner was right after the election, that only the same dozen or so losers oppose him and this whole effort will fail miserably.

Silly me, thinking this was a Republic, or something.

Boehner may have been selected as the nominee for the caucus vote, but he's not Speaker yet. Now they have to show courage and refuse to vote for him to force a second round of votes.

Well, now, nothing like running the nation with the best and the brightest for each committee. I bet a great community organizer would be able to put aside personal feelings for the good of the party, oops, I mean republic.
