The owner of the St. Louis Rams has announced intentions to build a massive new NFL stadium and entertainment complex in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood.
Stan Kroenke revealed the grand plan to the LA Times on Monday. In addition to an 80,000-seat stadium, the billionaire and his partners are proposing an adjacent 6,000-seat performance venue.
Los Angeles was home to the Rams from 1946 to 1994 and, as St. Louis scrambles to come up with a plan for a new stadium in order to retain the team, the City of Angels appears ever more likely to get a pro football team after two decades without one.

This is actually a pretty good location. Right across from the Forum, close to LAX, easy access from the more affluent neighborhoods. I new stadium with all the other stuff that is built up around it will be good for the area. I am sure St. Louis will come up with incentives to try to keep them. The Dome in St. Louis is only 20 years old. Is that the expected life span of an NFL stadium these days?
The locals call it Inglewatts. It used to be a nice town until Obama’s sons started moving West. The 405 freeway kind of became a dividing line. I am not sure if that is still the case.
Move the Cardinals back to St. Louis. Restore the order of the universe.
well now just waiting for the other shoe to.drop. doesn’t this news make the St.Louis Rams a lame duck franchise as of right now??? Will they play in the Rose Bowl or somewhere else in the L.A. region while waiting for the new stadium? Hard to believe they stay in St. Louis for now assuming this stadium news is a done deal.
Part of the issue with the Raiders today is brand related I think - and the team has been down. Their brand has been soiled irreparably by the association with gangs, hip hop and NWA specifically.
Like most things, it’s not the structural integrity of the stadium there but the “style,” although in this case that’s a bit misleading term. Owners today want stadiums to generate more revenue with improved restaurants, etc. and an adjacent development that makes them money 24/7/365. So by “style” a mean the design- what its intended to do. The dome in St Louis is just a stadium. The Rams want a destination. The Forum in LA is still used, heck even the Sports Arena (a little!) but the teams in Staples Center get a lot more dough out of playing there.

Same with China Basin in San Fran. It was an old, worn-out industrial district and skid road. The new ball park revitalized the area and you can’t believe the billions of new investment that has flowed into the area. UCSF built their new campus just south of the ball park. Pretty soon, the hipsters will be keep on the move into Bayview / Hunters Point and crowd out the Section 8 cohort. Of course, the redevelopment of the old Candlestick area further south is going to help put the pincer squeeze onto those two high-crime areas.
The sports talk shows have always said that the league (and any potential stadium developer) wants two teams in the new venue. I heard a while ago that the NFL won’t let any team move there unless THEY are part owners of the stadium. This would also help a team like the Raiders or Chargers swallow renting in a stadium owned by another team (the Rams) because the NFL would be there to keep things equitable. How this announcement fits that scenario I don’t know.
The latest I heard is that no team that can formally ditch their year to year lease (Rams, Raiders, or Chargers) have done so for 2015. As for playing in LA before the new stadium is built, every conversation I’ve heard points to the Rose Bowl.

Inglewood is a great location. In the middle of major work centers of El Segundo - Torrance (Hughes-TRW-Herbalife-Toyota(leaving)) and Santa Monica - Wilshire (studios - tech- finance) to the north.
It would be great to have amounts of decent housing in the area. The 405 can’t handle the traffic.

Yes, right around the stadium/ballpark/aquarium is nice at times, but even the restaurant area of the Inner Harbor can be dangerous, and you certainly don’t want to go even a couple of blocks outside the area. There are regular muggings in the daytime around those office buildings there.

Yeah, passingly familiar with the area. Went to Westchester HS west of there, so Inglewood was part of the cruising scene in the sixties. Lots of short drag races on Inglewood Blvd.

A cop in Santa Ana was once quoted as saying (back when both teams played in So.Cal) : “Did you ever notice we never have any kids wearing a Rams jacket, that end up in the morgue?” .
