I thought the purpose of a fire department was to respond to fires and other emergency situations - not to march in parades. Is there some type of charter or other official document that specifically identifies the scope and mission of the fire department? Can the fire fighter's union fight this on those grounds?
Another excellent point!
A fire chief who apparently has a thing for accommodating homosexuals and orders his firefighters to march in ‘their’ parade should be summarily dismissed.
Depending on their sense of security they should: (1) call in “sick”, (2) make a dental appointment for that day, or (3) tell the thugs in charge were to go and simply refuse to endorse perversion. My vote would be #3, but they may have obligations that infringe on their God-given freedoms and protected constitutional rights.
Quite untrue. All I'm doing is demonstrating that my religious beliefs are more important to me than my job. Has nothing whatsoever to do with any legal liability of my boss.
Individuals have a responsibility to do the right thing, too. Getting sick on gay pride parade day is a fine solution to this problem. Firemen and Police officers have sick leave.
Time to use a sick day?
It’s not considered a political stance anymore, since both parties support it.
Call in sick.
