Some 12% fewer cars were set alight on Wednesday compared with 2013, in a measure of what has effectively become an annual event in French suburbs since riots in 2005 in Paris and elsewhere.
The number of vehicles torched fell from 1,067 a year ago to 940, the interior ministry said in a statement.
Security was high in France overnight following a series of street attacks.
While the car-burning can be easily traced back to 2005, some correspondents say the idea of burning cars as a form of protest in France dates back into the 1990s.

Something tells me if 940 cars were burned in America that there’d be at least one dead muzzie in the mix.
Probably related to all the Franco-Euro millionaires that abandoned the country due to the 75% income tax, meaning less people to torch cars.
They recently repealed the tax, so these torchers will be back in droves next year.

Not less people to torch cars, but less cars to torch. Our news here in NJ was proudly proclaiming that Camden NJ had less crime than last year; the last time I was there (several years ago) it was already undergoing “Detroitification” (depopulation). Crime fell because there are less people and businesses to prey upon.

In France the muzzies flipped 940 cars and torched them. Meanwhile, across the channel who knows how many teenage British girls in Bradford, Sheffield and Manchester got knocked up involuntarily on New Years Eve by 50 year old Pakis. At least the French know on the morning of Jan. 1st the extent of the damage. Will take the Brits a few months to figure it out.
