Is this an actual fake outrage, where partisans pretend to be offended at something to play up the supposed inhumanity of their opponents, or is it a fake fake outrage, where only a few even bother to pretend but the media seizes on it anyway because it’s a “controversy,” sort of, and they’re bored? For the moment, it looks like it’s being pushed not so much by American liberals but by foreign press — the Independent, an Irish newspaper, and the always buzz-hungry Daily Mail. Turns out Facebook commenters grumbling at a former VP nominee now qualifies as international news. Who knew?
Good news for Slate, though, as this takes care of January 2nd in next year’s “Year of Outrage” round-up.
Happy New Year!
May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for “up!”, found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.
- Sarah Palin
Click for pics. American news outlets like the New York Daily News and The Blaze picked it up this morning, with a full-blown Twitterstorm now shaping up as lefties and righties wearily assume their designated roles. I’m going to guess that if little Trig’s weight caused the dog any pain, the dog would have made that clear to him in ways that dogs are wont to do but I’ll defer to experts in the comments. In the meantime, let’s pray that the number of hideously overwrought Smart Takes this incident produces remains small:
Eagerly awaiting Andrew Sullivan's smart take on what Trig Palin putting his foot on a dog means for the future of our republic.

To answer my question, I think this still qualifies as a “fake fake outrage” for the moment but has potential to become an “actual fake outrage” simply because there’s a dog involved. Remember how the story of Mitt Romney putting his dog in a kennel on the family car’s roof during a trip years ago became a thing, at least on the left, during the 2012 campaign? Stories of possible animal abuse by Republicans grab them, I think, because they support the liberal narrative that conservatives are heartless. They’re a Window onto the Conservative Soul in a way that, oh, say, abortion without restriction is most certainly not a window onto the left-wing soul. And of course they disdain Palin singularly for a mess of reasons, so any chance to score a point on her is a chance that must be taken. It’s really a perfect post-New-Year Friday story — nothing else is going on in the news, everyone wants to get back to holiday revelry before the deep-breath plunge into normal order in January, and one of their favorite whipping boys has given them something to chatter about. I figure they’ll reach “actual fake outrage” intensity by mid-afternoon today, with the storm dissipating this evening as everyone eases into the weekend and stops thinking about this even a little.
Agree. Young kids don’t know and its the responsibility of parents to teach them better, regardless of who the parents are.
No need to worry about Sarah, many things, like the tight jeans hitch-hiking in the desert, tells me she will be happy not running.
If the dog was bothered by it, I am sure he would have let Trig know fairly quickly. It appears that the dog does not care a bit. Proof that dogs know better than liberals.
I bet that dog has a more comfortable life than half the people on the planet.
I know that. He would yelp, bite. and move out.
The Lefty Regressives are still upset that Governor Palin didn’t kill Trig when they found out he had Down’s Syndrome.
Your thought processes seem to be on a par with your punctuation skills.
Actually, folks pay good money for a Ashiatsu massage!
It’s great for back and neck pain
Looks like Trig enjoys faking people out by mostly holding himself up on the kitchen counter.
It’s nothing wrong with little Trig standing on his doggy. That happens. Kids dress the cat up in doll clothes. It’s not wrong to giggle, or even take a photo.
But it is really dumb to send that picture out to the whole world, especially to consider it an example of morally good behavior. Trig’s determination is to be praised, but he needs to learn to treat animals with respect, which he will I’m sure as he grows.
I love Sarah and hate it when she appears to confirm what most of the country thinks about her, that she is stupid. I’m glad she doesn’t care what other people think, but that doesn’t makes a good politician.
Back walking in bare feet, to relieve back pain
WARNING : the person giving the massage has Shrillary cankels, have brain bleach close by

Good one.
One of the photos from the link, is in post 10.
Punctuation and sentence structure are your friends.
Post 4 is for you.
It is sweet when the photos of children standing on dogs is part of the DeGeneres show site.
This seems quite less obviously wrong than what Mitt Romney allegedly did with the family Irish Setter and a rooftop dog carrier and a car wash. Nobody is holding the dog in place and there’s not the slightest perturbed look on its phizzog.
Baloney. Kids have been standing on dogs for more years than I have been alive. Dogs are smart. If hey are bothered, they walk away. This is his service dog, I think. Try to hold one when it does not want to be held. My oldest nephew is 2 years younger than I. He was born with a birth defect. His right leg had to be amputated when he was a toddler. His dog let hm do that and if he were outside and got too hear their lake, the dog kept him from getting too close to the water. As a kid, that fascinated me. Dogs are smart and they will let their humans know when they do not like stuff.
Your mother should have given you a fast swat for failing English and Grammar.
PDS again, for folks who hate her that much they sure do seem to pay a lot of attention to her and what she does.
Can you imagine the outrage had one of the windows been dirty?
