A funny thing happened in New York City last week: Cops stopped arresting people. Not altogether, of coursethat would be anarchy. But since last Monday, the number of arrests in America's largest city plummeted by two-thirds compared to the previous year. The decline is a conscious slowdown by New York's police force to protest City Hall's perceived lack of support for law enforcement.
NYPD officers and union leaders have been at odds with Mayor Bill de Blasio in the wake of the Eric Garner case and the killings of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos this month. In their latest move, officers have begun a "virtual work stoppage" throughout the city by making fewer low-level arrests and issuing fewer citations. The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, New York's largest police union, urged its members not to make arrests "unless absolutely necessary," according to the New York Post's report.

If cops don’t feel like doing their jobs, DeBlasio should treat them like Reagan treated air traffic controllers.
de Blasio did not want the first guy to be arrested, and since the cops will still arrest the second guy. He needs to give more explicit instructions as to what he wants done. He seems to want cops to do the impossible.
Maybe the IRS should stop auditing people. I am sure that improve their image and encourage people to comply with tax regulations.
“Look at this place, there is no one here, the cops are into something, its like Christmas, you could steal City Hall!”.

You're wrong. 30 years ago in NYC under Mayor Dinkins, if you stopped for a traffic light, the 'squeegee men' would squat crap on you windshield and demand money to clean it off.
Punks were jumping turnstiles in the subway never paying a fare.
Drunks, druggies and hookers pissed on the sidewalks where ever the hell pleased. The cops, under orders, ignored most of those 'minor crimes.'
And incidentally, thousands died from murder every year.
NYC was a terrible place to live.
Then Rudy took over and used the broken windows philosophy. He had the cops take down the squeegee men. He ordered them to take down the turnstile jumpers. He ordered them to crack down on the sidewalk pissers and prostitutes. And guess what. A very high percent of those arrested for those so called 'minor' offenses were carrying illegal firearms and/or had outstanding warrants for serious crimes including murder.
Rudy got the human trash off the streets and the city cleaned up very quickly and became the safest big city in the country.
Now Bill The Red wants to take it back into the dark ages of Mayor Dinkins, who he used to work for.
