Publishing giant HarperCollins has been criticised for omitting Israel from an atlas. The country is not labelled on the map - bought by English-speaking schools in the majority-Muslim Gulf, while Gaza and Jordan are clearly marked.
Collins Bartholomew, the subsidiary of HarperCollins, told The Tablet that including Israel would have been 'unacceptable' to their customers in the Gulf and the amendment incorporated 'local preferences'

This can’t be. We’re constantly told the majority of Muslims are tolerant. /sarc/
If they ever sell one that’s a custom production for Israel, I hope the Land will extend from the River of Egypt to the Euphrates. Maranatha!
They should also make the earth flat and have the sun revolve around it.
I can go along with this.
While we are at it, some folks around here in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina might be interested in an Atlas with a somewhat different rendering of North America.
Why stop there?
HarperCollins is now unacceptable. We will not be purchasing any more books from them or their imprints. GTH Harper!
Another win for ‘lesser evil’ supporters. I’d be bursting with pride were I one of them. Their ‘ethics’ are in wide use. Now they have even more in common with muslims than ever.
Ignoring reality is the very definition of insanity.
ps: we order hundreds of books so hopefully even a big publisher like HarperCollins might notice that we’re moving along to other publishers.
A subsidiary, of course, of Murdoch’s News Corp.
Unacceptable to screaming smelly bearded savages.
ping
There’s no heaven or hell locations for these in denial either. Expect a rude awakening for them in the future of their own choosing.
This is insanity!
“Local preferences”?
So,in that case, why doesn’t MY HarperCollins Atlas show Rivendell?
Oh, wait..it DOES show Mordor on the Potomac.
Never mind...
Collins Bartholomew, the subsidiary of HarperCollins that specialises in maps, told The Tablet that including Israel would have been unacceptable to their customers in the Gulf and the amendment incorporated local preferences.

Hmmm...In the world of publishing, HarperCollins is “unacceptable.” Boycotter’s “local preference”: It doesn’t exist.

That’s a good idea for a crowd-funding project. Are you going to start one?
