Dear FRiends:
After more than ten years, I am turning over the reins of the
RevWar/Colonial History/General Washington Ping list to afraidfortherepublic. I have enjoyed bringing these posts to all of you over the years, and have not lost one iota of passion for the Founders and the story of the origins of this, the greatest country that ever was and ever will be. I assure you I have learned more from the people here than I have ever been able to teach.
At this point, however, I will need to devote more time to my medical practices and will not be able to devote the time needed to cover this responsibility. I will be around, but not quite as active.
And thank you Ezekiel for the post, Ditto for the ping and afraidfortherepublic for agreeing to the task. She will do wonderfully, I am sure!.
And finally, Scott Walker in 2016!!

Thank you so much for your volunteer efforts over the years.
I know we probably took you for granted and just enjoyed the feast of information that you placed before us without thinking about the work and time you put into it.
It’s great that the tradition will go forward, but like the founders of the Republic, you started something great and will be remembered for it.

Imagine if the Bible and a copy of the Constitution were found to be in it....
The resulting thud of fainting progressives would be heard around the country.... do you mean the Tea Party supporters are in-line with our founders????
To: Pharmboy; afraidfortherepublic
Thank you for all your effort and I wish you well in your future endeavors. Welcome afraidfortherepublic.
Perhaps, on 6 Jan, when opening the capsule there will be some wisdom and courage released from our Founding Fathers.

Not necessarily. Time capsules often do not hold up well. And the further era it was placed, the more likely to be ruined. Technology to preserve things was not there. Old coins will survive quite well, depending on conditions, but papers, etc, can be a mess.
I recall this with a TC shown in Mt. Olivet Cem in Frederick, MD. Do not recall if it was specifically for Frederick, or Francis Scott Key (he’s buried there), or what, but in any case they opened it some time ago and there was not much to be observed. There are some “harder” things but if they put in papers and other soft materials, don’t count on much.
I would be surprised if this really has much to see.

I knew that. Figured why look it up when somebody else will be more than willing to do it for me.

Based on an X-ray taken Dec. 14, 2014 and an account from the reburying ceremony in 1855,
inside the 10-pound time capsule about the size of a cigar box is a collection of:
■ silver and copper coins dated from 1652 to 1855,
■ an engraved silver plate,
■a copper medal honoring George Washington,
■the seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
■newspapers,
■cards, and
■a title page from the Massachusetts Colony records.
