Two U.S. Army 'deserters' and two different kinds of justice

If ever there was a U.S. Army deserter who deserved forgiveness, it should be Lt. Lawrence J. Franks, not Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

But as a result of politics in the military under President Barack Obama, it is Franks who is going to prison while Bergdahl will most likely be exonerated and awarded some $200,000 in back pay.

At a Rose Garden ceremony in May with Bergdahl's parents present, Obama announced Bergdahl's release by the Taliban. Obama acted as though he just awarded Bergdahl the Medal of Honor. He hugged the parents, and Susan Rice, Obama's national-security advisor, said Bergdahl served "with honor and distinction."
