WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS2/FOX28) -- Next week, lawmakers will return to Congress. Often a formality, the new session will have to elect a new Speaker of the House. But a growing number of conservative Republicans are mounting a challenge to Speaker Boehner. In a radio interview last week, North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones said he's meeting with more than a dozen Republicans considering to submit another name for the leadership. Though pundits see the challenge as a long shot, the hope of Boehner's opponents is to deny him a majority of votes so that he's forced to drop out of the race. Most believed to be challenging the Speaker are doing so behind closed doors, but in a post on Twitter, Rep. Tom Massie of Kentucky hinted he would oppose Boehner, by posting a sign that reads "Next Speaker Please." Far-right factions of the Republican party are upset with Boehner over his unwillingness to challenge President Obama's executive orders on immigration policy before the end of the year. Most in the Republican party still support the Speaker. An aide for Speaker Boehner says there will be no punishment for members of his party who choose to vote against him.

Embarrassment of embarrassments to Boehner would be this scenario.

I’d settle for that; since we probably can’t get him voted out of the Speaker’s Chair. That would be a sweet victory for our team; embarrass the crap out of him before the entire nation.
A House leader, minority or majority, has immense power over the rank & file. Committee assignments, office space, junket approvals, bill amendments, reelection money, all kinds of perks can be withheld or awarded if you vote the ‘right’ way.....................
FIRST, we need a NAME or TWO of someone WILLING AND ABLE to replace him!!!
No, you need 218 votes to be speaker and there are only 190 dems.
We need 29 votes for anybody besides boehner ...
That would keep boehner from a majority - unless some Dems vote for him. Which would be awfully embarrassing too. Imagine his future as “elected by Democrats”... lol
May I suggest:
TED CRUZ for SPEAKER
at least we will have someone to battle McConnell then.
Are you wanting to see a grown man cry?
MSM just stirring the pot and smirking about it.
And that’s assuming all reps show up that day to vote.
I’m trying to get a handle on exactly how possible it is for Boehner to be voted out. 29 votes doesn’t seem too hard to pull off.
Well we have 247 Rs.
I dunno how many true TEA Rs we will have when the new Congress is seated...
Should we start a list?
Six Texas Representatives will be chairs of six of the twenty one committees;
The six Texas chairmen will be K. Michael Conaway (Agriculture),
Mac Thornberry (Armed Services), Jeb Hensarling (Financial Services),
Michael McCaul (Homeland Security), Pete Sessions (Rules), and
Lamar Smith (Science, Space and Technology).
Good side note, except Sessions.. ick.
No, it's exactly what I meant. Were it the way you're suggesting, then Pelosi would be Speaker again.
As I look back at it, this may have caused the confusion:
This is how Boner and other RINOs have stayed in power because they have enough Republicans on their side to prevent challengers from not just beating them, but also outvoting the RATS meaning that voting against them puts the RATS in charge. It would be clearer to say:
This is how Boner and other RINOs have stayed in power because they have enough Republicans on their side to prevent challengers who may be able to beat them from also outvoting the RATS meaning that voting against a RINO Speaker like Boner puts the RATS in charge.Which makes this clearer:
It's pretty sickening to know that there are that many Republicans who would rather see Pelosi as Speaker again rather than vote against Boner.
Thank you. I feel better.
k. Thanks.

If I had the sole authority in this situation, we’d see more that a grown man cry. I best leave it at that.
No, not that way.
There will be at least two candidates - Boehner and Pelosi. Either needs 218 votes to win.
Pelosi starts with 188. She needs 30 Republicans to be elected.
Boehner starts with 247. He has to lose 30 Republicans to be defeated.
Say the first ballot is Boehner 217, candidate X 30, Pelosi 188. Now Pelosi and Boehner face off. If the bloc of 30 for candidate X stays solid, are there 30 GOPe members who will switch to Pelosi on the second ballot to punish the rebels so severely that they will never speak up again?
So you’re saying the Speakership is subject to a literal runoff?? whoa
Of course no Rs will vote for Pelosi, this is a recorded vote.
