As I get older and perhaps more cynical I too get more and more concerned about flying in a plane, it’s silly of course, flying is a hugely safe method of transportation and when I was a young man I had total confidence in aircraft but now before the plane takes off I think to myself:

“Here we all are packed into an aluminium tube carrying several tons of highly explosive kerosene and the bloke at the front is going to send it hurtling down this concrete runway as fast as he can until he can get it to lift off into the air. Then when he has done that he is going to fly through the clouds, for long periods in the middle of the night for thousands of miles until he finds a speck of light from way up in the air and then he will slow the plane down so that it drops to the earth and he can land it on a concrete strip and hurtle along the ground again until he can bring it to a stop. Hey what could possibly go wrong?”

Like I say I am either completely illogical for worrying about that or I am the only sane person aboard the big flying tube.

I don't worry about any of that, because the bloke at the front is in the aircraft with you and wants to get home safely.

You want to worry about something, worry about the happiness levels of the maintenance mechanics, and where they got their replacement parts.

You sound perfectly sane to me. LOL!!

When I was a kid, my godfather had an air charter service and would take us flying in his planes on weekends. I loved it.
Then for no reason that I’ve ever been able to come up with, I suddenly became terrified about flying around the age of 20.

So on the ground I stay on the rare occasions I get to go somewhere. That’s ok. A lot of beautiful scenery to admire along the way.

several tons of highly explosive kerosene

Kerosene isn't explosive, but it will burn.
