Little Noticed in Immigration Overhaul: A Government Hiring Rush [Funded By Republicans!]

Little Noticed in Immigration Overhaul: A Government Hiring Rush By MICHAEL D. SHEAR DEC. 25, 2014

WASHINGTON — This is how a bureaucracy grows.

Only 10 days after President Obama announced in a prime-time address that millions of undocumented people would soon “be able to apply to stay in this country temporarily without fear of deportation,” an electronic bulletin reached inboxes across Washington. In a crucial detail that Mr. Obama left out, the Citizenship and Immigration Services agency said it was immediately seeking 1,000 new employees to work in an office building to process “cases filed as a result of the executive actions on immigration.”

The likely cost: nearly $8 million a year in lease payments and more than $40 million for annual salaries.

The announcement of the new “operational center” among the chain restaurants and high-rises of Crystal City, a Northern Virginia neighborhood used for overflow from the federal agencies in Washington, offers a glimpse into how swiftly a president’s words can produce bigger government. It also demonstrates the bureaucracy’s ability to swing into action, even during an extended power struggle between the president and Congress.

“When you have an executive order, when you have a president saying, ‘I want you to do this,’ bureaucrats say, ‘O.K., let’s go do what the president says,'” said Elaine Kamarck, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a former White House official who worked on Vice President Al Gore’s “reinventing government” initiative.

“This is beyond bloated government with 90% of minorities working for government.”

That’s correct. Joe Average White Guy walking in off the street hasn’t a chance at one of those jobs. Only party connected whites, and mainly females they pay less get on the payrolls. Any other alleged “minority”, and mainly blacks they roll out the red carpet.

Well, at least they are not wasting money on high priced, multi millions earning top executives like the over charging drug companies, oil companies, etc. have been doing for years. Suggest you Google “Forbes, Exexcutive (or CEO) Compensation” for just how bad it is at the top. For example, last time I checked Rite Aid pharmacy paid its CEO about 1/3rd what CVS pharmacy CEO gets, so I do most of my shopping at Rite Aid now. Next I plan to check Home Depot versus Lowes.

Do you realize that private enterprises cannot force people to give them their money at the point of a gun the way government can?

You seem to resent companies that do a good job and earn a profit, preferring companies that don't.

Sounds like you're longing to live in a socialist paradise. I hear Venezuela is nice this time of year.

Yes, I could kick myself for having stock in BP and General Electric. Fortunately I got the base stock so long ago that even with their screw-ups, I am still ahead of the game with stock splits.

Where I work, in our data analysis department (IT) reporting, we were hiring a Manager with six figure pay in our IT Department. Incredible benefits where I work.

Requirements were: Management experience, with some experience with Oracle, SQL, EPIC, EPSI. They put the job out on every job hiring website you can think of. They had very little hits or applicants. I just couldn’t believe it as where I work it’s a huge employer that is well-known. We finally ended up promoting one of the Sr Analysts who was a “techie” and then hired a consultant from India to do the major programming.

Can someone explain to me the lack of applicants for an incredible opportunity to work for a great employer?

Little Noticed in Immigration Overhaul: A Government Hiring Rush [Funded By Republicans!]

A lot of people here, including me, noticed this. Congress might not have been able to force Obama to enforce immigration laws, but they didn't have to increase spending to pass out IDs and de facto permanent residency. Instead they charged full speed ahead on this. Feh on the roundheel republicans who quickly give Obama everything he wants and then some.

More unionized affirmative action government bureaucrats to crush the life out of anyone they find to be “icky” ... pay up, stupids. No one hates you more than the people whose salaries are paid by you ...

And this is one reason government is so inept because they don’t hire by your skills but your skin color or ethnic origin.

During the period when GE stock dropped from $50 to $5 a share the top seven executives had salaries ranging from $11 to $22 million. I was outraged and voted my shares in favor of the proposal to have shareholder advisory on executive compensation. From 2007 to 2008, the CEO of Goldman Sachs salary went from over $40 to over $70 million. In spring 2008 the stockholders voted a significant minority (somewhere between 35 and 45%) for the same kind of advisory. The next year the GS CEO only had a $25 million salary. Since then I have had trouble finding that information.
