Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York City Police Department Commissioner William Bratton, and Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs Nisha Agarwal last week announced a notable update to the NYPD Patrol Guide the upcoming municipal identification card, IDNYC, will be a valid and recognized form of government-issued identification.
This important step will help prevent the arrests of New Yorkers previously unable to provide proof of their identity during interactions with the Police Department including many immigrant, young adult, and transgender residents. IDNYC cards with names and home addresses will also be recognized as a form of identification in the issuance of summonses, desk appearance tickets, and property claims. This will allow police officers to issue summonses for low-level violations, rather than make arrests. Officers will thus be enabled to focus their attention on more serious crimes.
Its critical for all New Yorkers who come into contact with the Police Department, including those who are undocumented, to be able to identify themselves and do it in an atmosphere of safety, said Mayor de Blasio. This is going to play a crucial role in both preventing unnecessary arrests of New Yorkers who were previously unable to show identification and in deepening the relationship between police and community.
The NYPDs Patrol Guide will be modified to include the IDNYC card in the list of acceptable forms of identification, along with New York State Driver and Non-Driver Identification, New York State Drivers Permit, and other government photo identification. The Police Department played a significant role in the development of the IDNYC program, including advising on fraud prevention protocols and technology used to build the program. The IDNYC program and the NYPD jointly developed a comprehensive strategy for educating police officers on the IDNYC program, and the NYPC is issuing an Operations Order to advise all officers of the new policy changes.
This is what is occupying the time and resources of the Mayor of NYC? THIS??????????
(sigh)
why dont they just accept EBT Cards??
Mainly because they are rarely in the possession of the original person for whom they were intended.
ah yes,..there is that distinct possibility...
Your papers please...
What's with this, "Show me your papers" business?
Kinda my thought, too. When, exactly, did we all vote in a police state?
LOL.
It is a form of exchange in some circles.
Bratton, get up off your knees.
Of course, in the government that picks up the pieces after Wilhelm’s NYC crumbles, the records behind all these IDs will be very useful indeed. And New York is a world-class port, so while processing is going on, ships can be waiting at the 42nd Street Pier to sail for Tierra del Fuegoor wherever.
Will it be a photo ID? If not it’s worthless. Will it be ID for voting?
As intended, it gives de facto citizenship to those who are not citizens. They will of course vote democrat.
Wow you are the first to mention anything about voter ID in this thread! If it is racist to show ID to vote shouldn’t it be racist to show any form of ID for any reason at all? I thought minorities were too underprivileged to be bothered with getting a government form of ID? So many questions so many wrong answers by the left.
What will the consequences of this new I.D. law be?
First, it will attract many more immigrants, mostly Hispanic, to New York City. ...
Which will give Hispanic politicians there more power to defeat incumbents. Hasta la vista, Charlie Rangel.
In statewide races, like Chuck Schumer’s 2016 Senate re-election bid, Hispanic politicians will be able to mount serious challenges to incumbents in the primaries, causing the Democrats to split. Which will help New York Republicans win more Senate and Governor’s races.
The new flood of Hispanic immigrants will especially hurt Black New Yorkers, as their neighborhood schools become overwhelmed and the NYPD becomes too busy to deal with the criminals in their areas. And as for race hustlers like Al Sharpton, their powers will be so diminished they’ll have trouble maintaining their extortion rackets.
Goodness will prevail. Patience.
Good for voting too!
