Jesus Wasn’t Born Rich. Think About It. (Barf)
Daily Beast ^ | December 25, 2014 | Gene Robinson (Gay Heretic Bishop)

Posted on 12/25/2014 7:51:22 AM PST by C19fan

He was born in a barn to penniless parents who were part of a people under occupation. Get it? So why do so many of us not get it?

I’m against the War on Christmas. No not that one! Wishing someone “Happy Holidays” doesn’t rob Christmas of its meaning—after all, being sensitive to others’ religious beliefs ought to be the attitude of every Christian. And not the one that says we have over-commercialized Christmas—after all, there’s nothing wrong with a time of year when we purchase thoughtful gifts for those we love.

There was the gold, frankincense, and myrrh. There was also the small detail that all of heaven was present. Oh and that the world centered around Jesus.

Its clear this moron knows nothing about the families of Mary and Joseph. They were far from penniless. at least until they paid their taxes which is why they were in Bethlehem in the first place. Maybe the message here is paying taxes makes you penniless.

Merry Christmas the Son of God is Born to ius to usher in redemption.

What if Jesus was born in Brooklyn somewhere on Avenue P and had the oldtime NY accent?
Would the last supper have been of bagels, lox with schmear and a bottle of Manischevitz wine? Oy vey..

Gene Robinson is a classic leftist hero; my guess is that this is the best they could do in terms of pro-gay “Christians”. The man had two young daughters, ages 7 and 10, when he started an affair with someone much younger than his wife. A year later, he left his wife and daughters to move in with his new “partner”. Even if you completely ignore the fact that this was for a gay relationship, his conduct was reprehensible.

The fiction supporting Bishop Robinson as a modern Christian role model is very much like the fiction supporting unarmed black teens such as Trayvon Martin and Gentle Giant Michael Brown as examples of violence against black men. If these really are the best examples the left can manufacture, then anti-black racism in America is dead, and there isn’t a shred of logic among those who claim to be Christian and also to approve of choosing to engage in homosexual actions.

leading people to the wide gate. Is he doing this because he wants company?

Absolutely--you're quite perceptive. Beyond the more general aphorism that "misery loves company," getting others to join you can encourage you by seemingly validating your choice (which avoids the question whether popularity should be the true measure of propriety, or indeed whether "should" has any rightful place in the discussion). Everyone else is doing it, too, why shouldn't I? Of course, this is the whole rationale behind the Gay Pride movement of which Robinson is such a visible and vocal leader.

Robinson then claims Jesus and the Holy Family when they fled to Egypt were like today's illegal immigrants. Robinson seems to forget that the whole Mediterranean was controlled by the Roman Empire.

Not exactly.

Judea at the time was part of Herod the Great's client kingdom. Egypt was directly ruled by Rome. So there most certainly was a border. Which is of course why they fled to Egypt. It was outside Herod's control, being on the other side of the border.

Client kingdoms were part of the initial strategy of Rome in newly controlled areas. Directly ruling would be too expensive and cumbersome, so they subcontracted rule to local aristocrats, who remained in power as long as they paid their tributes and remained in favor with the Emperor.

The Empire didn't much care how they treated their own people.

Yup. From what I have read, the Magi that came from the old Babylon area, may have brought some of what was the prophet Daniel’s fortune that might have still be left over from his time. I am sure that is speculation to the max, as we have little to prove that, but a nice thought. That allowed them to live those years in Egypt safely. God provides!!!!

Matthew 7: 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

Slick Willy Clinton assured me some years ago that Jesus’ family was homeless.

He didn’t mention anything about them paying their “fair share” of taxes to the government.

Um, actually He was, or was rich by age 2, when about 100 kings gave His family gifts of gold, francensence and myrrh. Joseph and Mary had a lot of dough, but saved it on the instructions of the angel, who had told them Jesus was meant for big things.

Joseph was a tradesman, a small business manager, and a craftsman who paid taxes and had royalty in his ancestry.

That’s the whole reason they went to Bethlehem in the first place...to register for the tax in the City of David, because they were of the House of David.

Sheesh...and I’m not even an ordained minister, much less a Bishop, and even I knew that! (But I wish there had been a Holiday Inn for Mary and Joseph back then!)

Yep. You get it. And Joseph already had a house-—a prerequisite of a Jewish marriage.

There is nothing in the New Testament that gives any indication that the Holy Family lived in poverty.

BINGO

They're finally admitting that the 'shining City on the Hill' = Sepphoris = The great Roman and Byzantine city of Lower Galilee was capital city and major Jewish center, in Jesus' back yard - and was, after being destroyed, being rebuilt as Jesus' was growing up.

Combined with the word that was misinterpreted as 'carpenter' is now considered to have been 'builder' or 'stone mason' - a big step up in professions...And Sepphoris was a city of shining white stone and marble - it's now opined the Joseph was not a poor carpenter but a well to do builder/mason...and Jesus would likely have been working alongside him.

Also, It was likely that Jesus spoke, not only Arabic, but Greek. - He was not raised in a little backwater of Galilee - (indeed, there is no archaeologic evidence that Nazareth, the town, existed in Jesus' time. (The reference to Jesus and a Nazorite, (Samson, of the long hair, was a Nazorite, way back in the Old Testament) refers to the marrying sect of Essenes in nearby Mt Carmel. )- but a bustling place of Roman-Greek culture and the hub of the trade routes from and to other countries. -

Have Merry Christmas.

If I remembered... Mary and Joseph slept in a stable because the hotel was filled. That would be like today if my family decided to drive somewhere and decided to stop at a Holiday Inn and there was no vacancy. We would have to sleep in our car.

Back then there wasn't an 800 number to reserve a room...nor did they have Priceline.com.

Pennyless? Carpenter is a skilled trade (still is) and I doubt Joseph worked for free.

The bishop needs to study another Bible, because the bible he has must be written by Satan.

Joseph and Mary should have used the inn’s website to reserve a room...

Right -

There was, at the time of Jesus' birth, a LARGE community of Jews/Israelites in Egypt - which is where the family undoubtedly went - they wouldn't have been strangers - Quite probably where one of the Kings advised them to go in Egypt.

Wish Christians would do a little more independent research.
