(CNSNews.com) - The assassination of two police officers in New York City on Saturday; and the deadly attack on a Tarpon Springs, Fla. police officer one day later have boosted the toll of police deaths to 114 for 2014. More than half of the officers killed were attacked in some way. And the year is not over yet.
As of early Tuesday, 114 police officers were listed on the 2014 Honor Roll of Heroes compiled annually by the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP). That's already more than the 105 officers who died in 2013.
More than half of the 114 deaths were due to some form of assault and were non-accidental. They include two police officers who died as a result of assault, 46 killed by gunfire, including NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu; and 10 killed in vehicular assaults, which totals to 58 of the 114, or 50.87 percent.

To go further, check the stats on how many of these cops were killed by black men.
However the media and politicians of both parties (who are included in the leftist agitators) will see it and say "We have too many guns out there."
I'll bite, how many?
Hold on, I’m looking for the stat which I saw in the past week.
My guess would be no and so there ya go — gun laws don't work on criminals.
You think it's just leftist agitators?
There's countless "cop shoots dog" and "no-knock raid goes wrong" threads on this forum containing the same hostility towards law enforcement.

As “police” they count everyone and everything, Border Patrol, state, city federal, Secret Service everything, also heart attacks, accidental shootings, car accidents, everything.
How many are numbered as law enforcement by that count?
Voters and citizens need to openly discuss policing and police methods and excesses and practices that endanger the public and our homes and families, you want to shut that down?
Who will enforce your rule, the unions?
But I have never seen anyone on FR (myself included) advocate for violence towards police. Held liable? Fired? Yeah, I've seen that. "What do we want? Trigger happy cops fired! When do we want it? After proper due process!" Yeah, that's not the same thing at all, is it?
“There’s countless “cop shoots dog” and “no-knock raid goes wrong” threads on this forum containing the same hostility towards law enforcement.”
Funny, I didn’t realize the police were above the law.
Thanks for the correction!
I can’t find the stat I saw earlier, but here’s the FBI breakdowns for 2012—
Profile of alleged known assailants
In 2012, 51 alleged offenders were identified in connection with the 48 law enforcement officers feloniously killed. Of those offenders, the following characteristics are known:
The average age of the alleged offenders was 31 years old.
The average height was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and the average weight was 177 pounds.
49 of the alleged offenders were male; 2 were female.
30 of the alleged offenders were white, 16 were black, 1 was American Indian/Alaska Native, and 1 was Asian/Pacific Islander. Race was not reported for 3 offenders.
33 of the alleged offenders had prior criminal arrests.
8 of the alleged offenders were under judicial supervision at the time of the incidents.
11 of the alleged offenders were under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the fatal incidents.
7 of the alleged offenders were under the influence of alcohol or were intoxicated at the time of the fatal incidents.
More information about this topic is provided in Tables 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46.
Well, about 1,000 citizens were shot by cops during the same period. You could look it up.
Actual numbers of US cops is somewhere in the vicinity of 1M. Surprisingly difficult to be precise.

114 died on the job, roughly half murdered.
That’s a mortality rate of about 11 per 100k. Or a murder rate of about 5 per 100k.
The murder rate for US population as a whole is 4.7 per 100k.
IOW, cops aren’t murdered at a rate much higher than that of the rest of us.
Note: Numbers are approximate and I suspect cops are murdered at a rate about 50% higher than that of Americans as a whole.
But if we don’t look at numbers we may drastically overestimate the extent of a problem.
Police officers also have a high rate of suicide, so it is very important to parse fatalities into three areas: aggressor killed, accidental killed and suicide killed.
But if we dont look at numbers we may drastically overestimate the extent of a problem.
With the help of "law and order" conservatives and the police unions we can all be confused about real numbers.
I figure that the rate isn't all that high, if you look at "police" as a whole, but there are definitely some dangerous places to be a cop...inner-city, undercover, etc.
Yes.
Had a friend proclaim more officers die off the duty than on duty.
“Well, that makes everything all better now, doesn’t it?”
Pick a friggin side, Ass Wipe. (My response)
Agreed. My problem is that TV has vastly exaggerated this, and all police get the prestige that should be given to those who greatly risk their lives in service to others. Like combat soldiers.
If the job really isn’t all that dangerous, maybe that prestige should be reevaluated.
Oh shut up.
Yer making too much sense...
