He beat that Obamacare deadline. Did you?
CNBC ^ | December 22, 2014 | by Dan Mangan

New York City resident Nicolas Karlson was happy to be one of at least 2.5 million people who beat a major Obamacare enrollment deadline last week, but he's going to be paying a lot more for health insurance next year because of it.

To cover himself, his wife, Monica, and their three children, 45-year-old Karlson will go from paying $1,805 every three months for their long-standing Aetna plan, to a new one from New York State's Obamacare exchange that will cost them $1,221.60 per month, or more than 100 percent more than his old plan cost.

That steep bump in price is a result of Aetna's reacting to a feature in the Affordable Care Act, a law that Karlson said of with a laugh, "I literally had no idea that it would affect me at all."

There is no mention of the families annual deductible before their insurance at $1221 a month kicks in. I suspect it is high, say $10,000, for a family of five. So they have to spend approximately $2000 a month before the insurance pays anything. Some insurance. Unless any of them are really sick and require a lot of care, they might as well not have insurance at those rates. Pay the tax penalty and pay your medical expenses in cash as you need them. Save a hell of a lot of money.

“...a law that Karlson said of with a laugh, “I literally had no idea that it would affect me at all.” “

Bend over and spread them Mr Karlson, you are soon to get the “full affect” of the law. And His Arrogance, the IRS, and the crony capitalist insurance companies thank you for your initial vote and continued support of the law.

Why is there a deadline for signing up for insurance? Why can’t I buy insurance from whomever I want whenever I want?

Limited open sign up periods are nothing new. I remember dealing with one in the 80s. Part of the reason is so that people don't wait to sign up at their convenience until they get sick, especially now that coverage can not be excluded for pre-conditions.

The reasons you are giving for NOT enrolling are the exact same reasons that have always been used IN FAVOR OF signing up for catastrophic plans.

And this is relevant for what reason?

It sounds like this family's coverage is for their routine care (and probably catastrophic with a cap--we don't know) so they are out of pocket quite a bit before the insurance even kicks in. From the policies I've had in the past for my family, that's very expensive and nothing is covered until they reach the deductible. We used to pay small co-pays with no annual deductible to meet, for visits to the doctor and everything else was covered by the insurance. Not so here.

By any measure, ObamaCare plans suck big time. And by suck, I mean, not only do they provide bad coverage, but the money is "sucked" out of your wallet.

Don’t worry, sir, Obama still gets to go to any doctor he wants at any time.

So at least when you get ill, you’ll have that good feeling inside that Obama is doing just fine.

Having purchased catastrophic health insurance plans a few different times, I walked into the plan knowing that I owed $5,000 for my deductible.

I also walked into the plan knowing I was saving about $2,000 annually, and most of my medical care would be paid for in cash.

Made me very aware of the actual cost of treatment and services.

Now we see plans that I could only describe as “Stupid Catastrophic” being required for families who should NEVER be on one of these plans. I mean, $12,000 annual deductible for a family of 4? Most of these folks won't have any savings to pay the deductibles, nor will they have a fair chance to build up those savings with the cost of these plans eating up their income.

The next step will be an explosion of medical bankruptcies choking our courts, and another massive fundraising effort on the part of Democrats to blame the insurance companies.

When we all know it was the Democrat politicians that created the hypocritical crony plans in the first place.

Your tagline sums this article up nicely.

If his plan is like the one’s i’ve seen on healthcare.gov, his deductibles are quite high. The plans are pretty much catastrophic plans with high premiums. A lose-lose combination. Oh, and one that doctors don’t want to take.

Can you enroll online? That may be faster (automatic), if you don’t mind putting personal information out there.

“Don’t forget all you tax paying chumps. April 15 is tax day. Millions are counting on you.”

We’ll pay an arm, leg, and pancreas for 2014 but zip after that. See my tagline ;)

Next year, we’re moving to a rural property and will work on being self-sufficient. Our taxable income will be under $20k, so between the standard deduction and two personal exemptions, we’ll pay next to nothing to support this fascist regime.

Anyone else interested?

Oh, and we’ll be ready to fight to get the country back. A hard reset is the only way. Voting in liberal republicans isn’t working.

You can enroll when you have an qualifying event, like job loss.

I imagine there is an enrollment period to stop people from enrolling after they get sick then dropping coverage until the next time they get sick, because pre-existing conditions are covered. It would be like your car insurance covering an accident you had before you got the insurance. The insurance companies would go broke that way.

I thought they fixed that crappy website? Apparently not!

How very frustrating.
