Don't forget "Fort Apache: the Bronx."

There are also some excellent scenes of what a dump NYC was in the '70s in the The Seven-Ups. Particularly in the last ten minutes of the movie.

And who could forget the lovely scenes of NYC in The French Connection?

Yeah, but The French Connection is a much better movie IMHO. The Seven-Ups is kind of boring, so the scenery seems (to me) to stand out more.

They still had the $8 lunch special going till the very end - a 7oz steak, baked potato, a slice of their awesome garlic bread, and a small salad. I’d take advantage. SPECIAL BONUS: decor that hadn’t changed since 1973.

You know, I never went there. I knew tons of folks who did because of the prices - I wish now I had tried it out.

But Roy Scheider was in it. I always liked him. The agent in Marathon Man with Laurence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman was his best role and movie.

In a pinch, any non-white would do for the crazed avenger. Liberals always run their mouth and never give thought to the consequences. Like Ferguson, the pillage and looting will result in an economic desert. Insurance will not be available for businesses to cover their risks. All the while they will blame whites for their own doing.

Gee, I don't even remember Mr. Schneider in Marathon Man. On the other hand, that movie is so hard to watch that I've only seen it once.

Didn't Taxi Driver show some of decadent NYC? It was made in 1975, which was deep in the Beame era (the famous "Ford To New York: Drop Dead" headline appeared in October 1975).

“The Fourth Turning” looks like a good read. Thanks for the tip.

“Who would’ve ever thought déjà vu all over again, that we would be back where we were 40-some-odd years ago,”

Who indeed. How about any responsible adult with an IQ over 80? Bratton stinks of spin. He has been sent out by de Blasio’s PR team to sell the idea that the murders were not predictable from the actions of his communist master. Not buying.

To the tune of “Windy”:

Who’s walking down the streets of Fun City
Smiling at every mugger he sees?
Who’s putting all the junkies on welfare?
Everyone knows it’s Lindsay.

DeBlasio is bringing back that ear, and that is not good. I didn’t think it was possible to make John Lindsay look good. Comrade DeBlasio is trying hard, though.

“Needle Park”

“Dog Day Afternoon”

And of course the “Death Wish” movies.

Extra points for identifying the skinny bit actor who played the grocery store thug wearing the Jughead cap. Happened at beginning of the movie.

I was fond lunch at of the “Blarney Stone” bars. Good brisket and corned beef with beer at cheap prices.

You want tension? Try the US Army in Germany circa 1970.

It was very, very tense. I served as co-chairman of an enlisted study committee, reporting to a general.

The effort was mainly a ploy for the military to be able to say they did something about “the problem,” which was in effect ‘we studied it and there is really no problem.’
