An Oklahoma City abortion doctor was charged Thursday with racketeering a felony offense punishable by at least 10 years in prison.
Dr. Naresh G. Patel, 62, also was charged with three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.
Patel was arrested Dec. 9 at his Warr Acres clinic after an undercover fraud investigation. The clinic, Outpatient Services for Women, has not reopened since his arrest.
He is accused of providing abortion-inducing drugs to three female undercover investigators who posed as patients. Each paid the clinic $620.
Women not pregnant
Each time, Patel did an ultrasound on the womans abdomen, told her she was pregnant and gave her five pills of RU-486 to induce an abortion, according to a court affidavit. The women were not actually pregnant.
We will enter a plea of not guilty, his defense attorney, Mack Martin, said Thursday. We will try this case in the courtroom and not in the media.
Prosecutors rarely file racketeering cases. Assistant Attorney General Megan Tilly said Thursday the racketeering count is merited this time based on the egregious nature of the allegations and Dr. Patels use of his medical practice as a criminal enterprise to defraud vulnerable women.
Prosecutors also can seek a much more severe punishment at trial for Patel by adding the racketeering count. Patel faces only three years in jail at most and $15,000 in fines if convicted of all three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

If you can’t trust a baby murderer, who can you trust?
No honor among thieves or baby killers.
It seems like the media has taken the stance of ignoring the other sordid details of the Doctor’s ‘bedside manner’.
IIRC, several of the women complained of being sexually assaulted. Similar to the allegations in the Cosby case, while they were under anesthetics, he made his move on them.
Yet none of this has even gotten any mention in the media lately.
This is the monster that was caught burning babies in a field, stacked up like cord wood.
This reminds me of the quote by Lysander Spooner: “Those who are capable of tyranny are capable of perjury to sustain it.
Those who gleefully profit from killing innocent unborn babies in their mother’s wombs would certainly not have any qualms about committing a little fraud in order to promote their bloody business.
bump
Planned Parenthood and other groups formulated the strategy to claim clerical and religious support for abortion.
Were these R U 4 86 pills (86 being editorial code for “Kill this story) paid for by government money?
Hope they nail this murderous bastard.
